Apparently I did some research on the internet and majority of those with sweaty armpits complain about onion odors. Once my antiperspirant wears off, the onion smell does comes back and it's disgusting With my antiperspirant the smell changes to a metallic odor that makes people cough This condition is so annoying and does anyone have similar experience?

The onion smell is a volitile sulfur compound, or several like dimethyl disulfide. This can come directly from your diet i.e. if you eat a lot of onions/garlic, or the sulfur compounds can be produced by bacteria breaking down proteins.
First thing to try is removing onion etc from your diet (beware onion powder in many processed foods)
Second thing is to make sure you exfoliate (daily) your underarm skin to remove the dead skin layer.
Third is to stop the sweating as much as possible, which means a good anti perspirant and zinc supplements (see my other post)
Brom from the underarms is 9/10 likely to be due to bacteria in the underarm, metabolic sources would manifest in breath first. However if the above is ineffective your problem may be metabolic, maybe liver function, almost certainly bacteria overgrowth. You can test this by taking pepto bismol tablets for a week or so, bismuth binds to sulfur compounds so if the source of your odour is sulfur componunds generated by gut flora, pepto bismol ought to greatly reduce that whilst you're taking it. (not the pepto bismol is only a test, you sholdn't take it long term)
hope that helps.

yes also had this onion smell. i just posted about this, but thought i would post here too. I finally found a deodorant that combats this onion smell. i have tried millions and trust me, i understand the frustration of "try this deodorant" answers bc none of them ever work right. anyhow its dona karen cashmere mist deodorant. its a bit more expensive than drug store brands but worth it to me bc it actually works. i recommend this. it is a womans deo but works like a charm. thought i would share my findings and recommendations.

The reply in care of the Donna Karen Deodorant....is ABSOLUTELY ON POINT...I have tried everything...clinical secret, all of the shelf brands...even a prescription a few years ago... I bought Donna Karen a few years ago when armpit odor wasnt as much of a problem as now...i could still use some over the shelf...i took it off the bathroom shelf...and it works very well...better than store brands

I am going to do some research on bacteria and fungus in the body though...we do need to exfoliate...use a little powder before applying the deodorant....lemons work wonders if used prior to applying deodoarant and drying off...

really glad the donna karan deo worked for you. I have been checking back after i posted the suggestion to see if anyone else found relief with it. I am on my third stick and still very happy with it. Having tried EVERYTHING this is my holy grail of all hygiene products to keep BO away. esp if you have strong onion b.o. Its amazing. i only apply once. i tried the lemons, vinegar, exfoliating, scrubbing, long washing sessions, oils, baking soda, every type of deodorant but THIS is the ONLY thing that will keep my pits fresh ALL day long. so relieved and i really really wanted to share with this community specifically bc i was very very burdened with this issue. after buying this deodorant i can finally wear sweaters, blazers, and any type of fabric i want and i have no odor at the end of the day. i think i may save up some $ and buy a large stock of this just in case it is ever discontinued. thats how important it is to me. i hope others find relief like i did.

ok, I know this gonna sound like crazy but I tried everything including pills, treatment options and I was tired of paying money to get rid of this god awful stench, then I started experimenting with different things. I tried alcohol, I tried lemons, I tried bacterial cream, it got rid of the cause but not the smell left behind, so I tried Shout Free. It is spray and wash with no fragrance, no harsh chemicals, and no dye, plus it is all natural. I rubbed it on my underarms until it was dry and guess what. That smell was gone. I would recommend trying it if you have the guts to.

Keep an eye on how much refined sugar and/or flour you are taking in. The bacteria in your body and particularly under your arms uses this as their number one food source and it allows them to do what they do best at optimum speed. Do some experimenting with tracking your diet and the results. Hope this helps.

My pits almost always get sticky and smell like onions the week before my period. I'm sure it has little to do with what I eat and a lot to do with hormones and bacteria. The one thing that I have found that combats the smell is to rub a small amount of hand sanitizer into my pits after my shower or anytime I need to freshen up. It work so well that I can occasionally skip the deodorant. My favorite brand is septisol foam. I haven't tried the dona karen deodorant yet but will keep my eyes out for it.

I think diet must have a lot to do with. Try detoxing naturally - drink lots of water and eat vegetables and fruit mainly for a week or two. Take a very long walk every day. Should see a major change in body odour relatively fast. Deodorants are not the solution, cleansing your body from within is probably a better long term solution
