Hello all!
I have struggled with tmau my entire life. It absolutely destroyed me. I have tried every diet, every supplement, I only ate white rice and potatoes for a year etc.
For a while I was only eating cucumbers, peppers, a little bit of white bread, a little bit of white rice and a little bit of turkey. The smell improved but was still bad.
I finally went 100% raw 2 months ago. I eat cucumbers, celery, carrots, sweet potato (cooked), squash, zucchini, artichoke (cooked), beets (cooked), blueberries, melon, and a few more fruits and veggies like pears and plums.
I only take zinc, magnesium and probiotics. I drink a Ton of water - maybe 16 cups a day. I sometimes add lemon to it. I also do oil pulling with coconut oil in the morning and drink a few tablespoons at night. I put a lot of olive oil on my veggies.
And that's it.
I took laxatives the first day. I used to take lactulose but this time I took a regular over the counter laxative.
You will notice a difference in your smell in 2 days. Every few days you'll notice that the smell will significantly decrease. Everyone with TMAU knows how long it takes to really stop smelling. I finally stopped smelling completely at 2 months.
I think supplements help, but the diet is the #1 culprit. I used to sweat a lot more. I have to admit that out of all of the weird and restrictive tmau diets, this one actually feels nice. I feel healthy and energized. Most people with tmau are super dehydrated so we need a lot more water than most people. If I "cheat" and eat a slice of pizza, I immediately get that weird taste in my mouth. basically we can never cheat. But the results are so worth it. I can now smell things that I never smelled before. My strawberry flavored lip balm for example.
I know this diet is extreme but it works and it's a lot healthier than many of the other tmau diets. The only veggies that I would suggest avoiding are avocado, tomato, onions and garlic.
Xo
