hi, it seem that all the success stories involve a probiotic, yet, nobody seems to want to mention which probiotic they use. There are so many out there. If you have had a success story, can you please post your most recommended probiotics? i just spent 50$ on one last night at whole foods. So if there is a top one out there, i'd appreciate knowing. thank you!

Hi Jerry, Well I'm not cured myself but looking around at a few forums including this one and seeing that you mentioned $ so I'm assuming you are American I think florastor comes very highly recommended. A lot of people have good things to say aabout it. Over on this side of the atlantic in Britain and Ireland VSl 3 is supposed to be the strongest probiotic around though unfortunately it is reflected in the price of it. Hope this helps a little bit Jerry, fingers crossed the probiotics might work for you

thank you. yes. i am in the US. may i ask you tintin what your regime is? or protocal for preparation? IE, supplements you take, dosages, what you've found to help you in your preparations for the day etc.

Hey Jerry,
Well I'm not very organized or self disciplined so I am on probiotics and cutting out one or two things from my
diet like dairy and red meat but unfortunately I'm not on a strict protocol at the minute like I should be.
Hopefully soon though I've said that before. Personally I believe my odour and its the same for most people on here
is caused by certain bad bacteria which are living in my gut. To get rid of the smell I need to get rid of the bacteria.
Somebody on an ibs forum I'm on asked a similar question to you so I'll just copy and paste my reply if thats ok.
I should just say I'm definately no expert though by now I guess I've read up a fair bit on this dreadful condition.
Probiotics - These really do help a lot of people to some degree though it seems some probitotics work
better than others depending on the particular person. It's said that probiotics always need to be
kept refridgerated, those ones you see just lying on a pharmacy shelf should be ignored.
I heard a good tip if you want to see if a probiotic is effective or not is to poor it into a
glass of milk and put it in the refridgerator. If it works then the probiotic should start to
ferment the milk and turn it into a yogurt of some sort. I found my smell has gotten a bit worse since
I started using probiotics but I think thats natural till my insides gets used to them. Antibacterials - Some antibiotics are said to help in the sort term like metronizadole (don't think
I spelt that right). Maybe your doctor could prescribe some, however they are not supposed to be used
long term and a lot of people prefer top take natural antibacterials like - grapefruit seed extract,
ginger, garlic, oregano oil, cocounut oil. Supplements - A lot of people say that you should take a multivitamin tablet as people with
digestive issues are deficient in things like zinc, magnessium etc. I've read in a few places that vitamin b
is a good thing to take for malodour sufferers. Charcoal tablets are supposed to curtail the odour though
personally I've always found them to make matters worse and you are not supposed to take them long term
anyway as they trap nutrients being absorbed into your insides. Diet - This is the tough one. Individual people will of course find different diets work
best for them but unfortunately if you have odour it's probalby best to start out on an
extremely restrictive diet for a while to try and strave the bad bacteria. Red meat and diary are
big no nos, maybe check out the low fodmap diet as well, unfortunately you may need to elimate sugar
as much as possible in the short term anyways.
After I wrote this someone pointed out about the need to take digestive enzymes with your meals which
is very true. I've read in many places by now that it does unfortunately take at least 3 months and more usually
6 months of a very strict diet as well as all the other things to get better. Hope this helps a liitle bit, again
though I'm not an expert. I should say it is a great pity you didn't come across the predecessor to this forum.
It was really great with many very informative people on it giving out good advice. Unfortunately it was closed
down and this new forum never had the same buzz. I would look to other forums as well like the curezone one,
the tmau forum, the ibs odor support one, the Mebo blog and probably
a few others I don't know of as this forum has gotten really quiet. Can I ask do you think your problem is bacterial as
well or perhaps somethign else?

Thank you. I think it's TMAU, although everyone I mention that to thinks I'm crazy. I go into doctors' and therapist's offices and they can't smell anything. I've asked trusted friends, ex girlfriends, people i've known for years if they've ever smelled anything... random strangers to spot sniff me and they think i smell fine and have never noticed any unusual odors prior. HOWEVER, THE ONLY TIME any one says anything is when i'm at work, i seem to have a problem.
When i'm trapped in a closed, no ventilated room for several hours with co-workers, someone new entering the room will notice an odor, but the people around me do not seem to notice, i don't know if it's because they get used to it? i don't know. it's very confusing and vexing. So i'm trying to figure out strategies of coping at work right now, since that seems to be the only time I have a problem, but also seems to be MOST IMPORTANT place for me to survive, so i'm trying tactics, IE sitting by the door, taking frequent water, bathroom breaks, anything i can do to mask, or hide the odor.
So i don't get it. I don't know what's going on. I'm in the stage now where i'm trying lots of different things. Trying to see what works and i'm also trying to get tested.

Yes, you get L. acidophilus, and L. rhamnosus, B. lactis, Steptococcus thermophilus, and/or L. Bulgaricus, through your probiotic. They ARE the probiotic! There are many different strains. Take this list and go to Whole foods or some health store. Look at the many probiotics in the refridgerator case and find the one that contains the most of the ones listed here. They all contain different strains. Also, my presonal experience, don't get any that have FOS. A lot of them use that as a prebiotic. It is something like fructoogli... I forget the rest, but it's sugar and can cause a bad reaction. Two I us:, Ultimate Flora-Critical Colon and Klaire Labs-Ther Biotic
