Hello I’m a new member. Well I am new to these forums altogether; finally I have plucked up the courage to introduce myself. My name is Rose I live in England and in my early twenties. Basically I have been suffering from this extreme body odor for 6yrs the older I get the worse the odor becomes. My story is similar to most on these forums as it is not hygiene issue. There have been so many embarrassing incidents with this odor I have lost count. I’m so glad I found this place it’s a relief! To start off I have a couple of questions for the people of this site. What on earth do you use to wash in the morning and night? I use antibacterial soap it dries out my skin but the smell is still there (I can’t smell it but almost everyone else can). Also has anyone found a good washing power for laundry? Help, everything I’ve tried hasn’t worked!

Hi Rose,
Welcome to our community. It's great to have you join us. I'm sorry you have had to suffer with this problem for so long at your young age, and that you think it's getting progressively worse.
To answer your questions, I think I'll pass on the first one because the products my family uses is for very oily skin, since that is our condition.
Your second question is one I think I can address in an attempt to help you. Some of the most smelly items of clothing we have in our family is our family are towels and sheets because that is what picks up our perspiration the most. It used to be that I would wash them 2 and 3 times, and sometimes they would still smell.
So what I have found works 99% of the time is to soak them overnight with baking soda alone in water, then rinse the water, and then wash them with normal detergent. This usually does the trick. Baking soda neutralizes the pH, and TMAU is very alkaline (pH 9.8) and I understand that bromhidrosis is very acidic. So, if baking soda neutralizes them both, then you rinse the water and then wash them with your normal detergent, you've accomplished alot more than if you would have only washed them with your normal detergent.
Also, for white clothes only, you might want to first soak it in white vinegar (especially if your odor is not bromhidrosis) and if it still smells after you drain the water, then soak it again with baking soda, drain the water again, and wash it with your normal detergent. The reason I say to use vinegar with white clothes only is because, since it is acidic, it will tend to bleach colors.
Hope this helps.

Hey, roses49. I am also new and we're the same age, ha. I know what you mean. I can say I'm a pretty clean person and yet I get body odor, which I've noticed is mostly due to what I eat or how much I sweat. I sadly don't have any helpful answers for you (at least I think not). I don't use anything special: I've used antibacterial soap in the past and it dries out my skin as well. Sometimes I just use regular Olay soap, but what I usually use is a soap I purchase online (it's a handmade, natural olive oil soap; excellent for sensitive skin, which is what I have). Not sure about your second question.

Did any one try soaking in Baking soda? If it works on cloth?

Hi Rose
I wash with Johnsons shower cream which is pH balanced and I use a flannel on my armpits. At the end of the day there's only so much a hygiene product can do though.

does anyone know what kind of dr. specializes in this issue. I too am very clean. I shower, wear clean clothes, so it is not a hygiene issue. I am getting quite paranoid as two bosses have made comments.

Lolana,
I don't believe that any particular doctor specializes in body odor conditions. However I would recommend that you go have a complete physical with kidney, liver, tests for infections and things like that. Then if those come back fine, I would suggest that you see an endocrinologist to see if something is going on with your hormones, or maybe even an allergist to see if you have any new food allergies or intolerances. In the mean time depending on what your odor is or what it smells like you might want to try one of the different diets to see if any certain food or food group might affect your odor at all.If you've only had two comments, it could have been that those were two bad days.Maybe try new deodorant, antibacterial soap, ect.And its just my opinion but I wouldn't recomment you quit a job of 15 years, it'll just make the whole situation worse. Also try to ask friends and family if they smell anything. Also, what type of comment did your bosses make? Was it a direct comment, because in that case you could ask him what he smells and where its coming from?Good Luck!

Hello mpdela, what and jcc34. Hope everyone is well. I haven’t been on this forum for a while for personal reasons but I am back. I am following the advice and soaking my clothes in Baking powder and also washing in Johnson's shower gel. It’s hard to say if it’s working because I still have a foul smell. Also I hardly go out at all on a social level. I am coming to terms with not getting any real solutions for this but I still want to try. Also I am looking to make friends.

I also soak my clothes in Baking soda and I add alittle ammonia and allow them to soak it total removes the odor. When I bathe I bathe with two to three different soaps I start out with a Dial antibacterial soap then I follow up with dove since its a moisturizer soap. It really helps b/c the antibacterial soap does dry the skin. Since doing this my scent hasnt been so bad I also use unscented deodorants I have notice a big change since doing so. However, I do have a slight odor still and try to stay away from people
