I have been wondering whether to take a TMAU test for a while now, however I have been wary because I am not sure if my symptoms qualify as TMAU.
My symptoms consist of fecal odor but I feel that this comes involuntarily from my anal region and this will happen throughout the day. I cannot smell the odor myself but I get comments throughout the day ( I work with young children so when it is really bad there are usually extra comments), people moving away from me, hand covering noses and getting odd stares etc.
From what I have read from others experiences it seems that people with TMAU suffer from the odor seeping through their pores. I do not feel that this is one of my symptoms because on the rare occasions I have smelt the odor I have never smelt it on my clothes or on my bedding, in the laundry room etc.
I have also been confirmed to have a bacterial overgrowth (but no leaky gut, I don't have any allergies) and I have a B2 deficiency.
I am just worried about spending more money when I am better off saving up for a different test that might provide more answers.
I was just wondering if anyone has experienced/or knows someone who had similar symptoms and has had a diagnosis of TMAU? Any general advice would be great!

Hope, TMAU has multiple odors and can only be determined by testing. We all wish there was an easier way to tell.
Fecal odor seems to be frequently associated with TMAU or bacteria on the tongue and mouth by people. Try tongue and oral care for a month using a stabilized chlorine dioxide, like Profresh or Therabreath. Read their web sites for instructions.
As far as an odor emanating from inside the rectum it is highly unlikely as there are two sphincters in there. It is more likely an odor would come freely from sweating in that area and genitals.
Just my two cents. Good luck with the bacterial overgrowth and B2.

Yes you should take a TMAU test. I had the same issue except I found a cure for the fecal odor coming from my anus. I put 3 drops of BETADINE solution in my anus after everytime I poop. I do this twice a day. It worked My breath still is a problem and I still have a small odor so I think its tmau. Try this cure tho, it works. Also u can find the Betadine solution at WALGREENS I have a blog about b.o./bb u can read: jennyjennifer1234.xanga.com/

Hello Hope If you have an odor originating from your anal region you can try devrom a product that will take away the smell from your stool. If you have some tpe of infection, hemmoirhoid, fissure or something like that that can also cause a smell in some cases and you can get a colonoscopy. There are some products by klima deodorant for genital sweating although they havent worked for me it might work for someone. I just finished the tmau test you can buy on the mebo website for around $150 + shipping and handling so around $200. You find out the results in 4-5 weeks. If I do turn out to be positive i might change by diet around and limit my intake of choline. I read about betadine working for someone and I'm glad that you found a cure but the long term use of betadine can have some side effects. You can try a mixture of tea tree oil on the area its a natural antiseptic and it might help the odor. Best of luck:)
