Hi
Does anybody get bleeding issues at all which I believe may be caused by vitamin K deficiency? I've had bleeding gums, nose, excessive bruising, and a mystery blood clot under a toe nail. What I 've noticed recently is my nose is bloody if i eat a lot of sugar.
The point of interest is 1. it appears related to dysbiosis and 2. there was an old claim that vitamin K can help fecal odour although I'm still not sure on the logic - maybe it's needed for a healthy gut wall. It could be false.
There are actually two vitamin Ks - K1 and K2. K1 comes from greens in your diet and K2 is produced by gut bacteria. So possibly in the case of people with dysbiosis and poor gut health you could well be deficient in both simultaneously. I think K1 is poorly absorbed particularly if your gut is unhealthy. Anybody ever try using it?

This is a very interesting thread. I do get minor bleeding issues. My blood platelets are below normal levels so I thought it was because of that, that if I cut myself, the blood would not clot easily. My potassium is usually low as well but no doctor has ever really commented on these things even when I've asked. I take B2/riboflavin as it is a coenzyme helping metabolic processes (hasn't helped me much tho') but I've never heard of vit K having an effect on fecal odour. I'll try to ask Dr Lachmann tomorrow (if there is time) about vitamin K defiency.

Hi Malory
Yeah I think platelets and vitamin K are both required for coagulation / blood clotting.

Hi Jcc34, I remember thinking the same thoughts as you about the vitamin K. I don't normally have any bleeding problems except when I have had chapped lips. Otherwise, I don't bruise easily or get nose bleeds.
I think a few of us should trial these sort of things to see if they have some effect. After all, they are cheap and simple.
Perhaps we could start with Vit K, Magnesium, Zinc, Vit B2 etc

I asked Dr L today if he had heard anything about vitamin K deficiency exacerbating odour. He said not and seemed sceptical about its significance. Still, I think it would be well worth trialling vitamin K. I saw that Boots do a combination supplement of vit D3, calcium and vitamin K. It's only £3 but has sunflower seed oil and beef gelatin in it so not sure if all could tolerate it.

Hi Arun
I think if some people get their diet wrong then you could end up deficient in all of those nutrients mentioned. I think this is definitely the case with me and eating sugary foods recently, I believe I've had marked symptoms of deficiency in all of those. Previously I've had tests showing marked mg and zinc deficiency. People with an unhealthy gut are supposed absorb certain nutrients badly: zinc, magnesium, vitamin K, some B vitamins. B2 is supposed to be absorbed easily, however I think most of us guys need much more to compensate for our odourous compounds and support FM03.
Recently I've been taking zinc and magnesium in liquid form to enable it to be absorbed more easily. Vitamin K I haven't tried yet but I think if I did I'd try to get K1 from diet (leafy veg etc) and K2 as a supplement (especially if people have had antibiotics which might have destroyed the bacteria which normally make this). There are also vitamin K creams which I was looking at too as these would bypass the gut altogether and should help my bruising.
