VSL is expensive, but worth every penny if it works eh? I bought 12 boxes of ten sachets for which they don't charge postage, which is high because they send it packed in ice. I believe it helped enormously, and the B2 finished the job. I've taken M/bionta since 2003, and will always continue to take it. I'm now finishing off some probiotic acidophilus 3 billion active cultures, 2 caps per day. When those are finished I'll re-order the VSL. I also eat kefir grains. Although I hope my odour is gone I will never relax the probiotics, and B2. If I did, I firmly believe the 'bad bacteria' would re-establish..I also think that charcoal is worth taking if someone has to eat something they know they shouldn't. But too much can upset sensitive stomachs, so just 2 caps within 1 hour of eating...I suffered classic Tmau2 and my odour improved when I cut down on red meat/fish/dairy/eggs/port in 2003. Coffee was the last to go, but I now drink Camp chicory and coffee essence, with rice milk. HTH...kx

I've heard chapped lips related to a few nutrients but mainly the Bs which are synergistic anyway and interact with eachother. The connection with B2 I got from here www.drmyhill.co.uk/wiki/Nutritional_deficiencies_-_What_signs_to_look_for_if_you_think_you_may_have_themA list of nutrient deficiency sypmtoms which is pretty interesting and I think Dr Myhill is a good source of info. I did try Multibionta once. Now I take a different multivit, plus a lot of other supplements. I like a multi made by Cytoplan, which i think is pretty good. I think the quality of supplements is important. Most nutritionists seem to say fish oil and the multivits are the most important supplements generally.

I've just bought the multibionta (3 for 2 in Boots at the moment so get it now if u r in the UK!!!) so I could update you on any improvements over the next 2 weeks. I'll also up my dosage of B2 from today and post any observations on here.
My TMA result is less than half than what it was 8 months ago (it was 32 and is now 12). Dr L said this may be due to me taking B2 - in combination with my restricted diet, of course. However, I have not noticed any reductions in reactions at all. Not giving up yet though.

Sadly, the faint odour returned after a shark steak, but was it worth it! Maybe it was the VSL that helped and is now out of my system, or my Tmau is still transient.....I'm going to take double the B2, so 2x100mg daily, while waiting for the VSL to arrive, and see if that helps. Now I'm nearly retired I can eat fish and chance the odour. To all you newbies, it does get better with the diet and suppliments, but it takes time...Stick with it...Kx

The Vitamin B2 I got has other ingredients other than 100mg of Riboflavin. Other ingredients are Dicalcium Phosphate, Microcrystalline Cellulose, Croscamellose, Vegetable Stearic Acid, Vegetable Magnesium Stearate, Silicon Dioxide, Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose. Would any of these extra ingredients make TMAU sufferer smells ?

This is a good source of info on B2 by the way www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=nutrient&dbid=93Apparently calves liver, crimini mushrooms, venison, spinach, romaine lettuce and shiitake mushrooms are good sources. It's also light sensitive so you need to protect it from light.

Someone mentioned all the other ingredients which go into supplements and if they are damaging.
I also have this worry but find that the more reputable the brand, the less crap they will have in them. I like Biocare but they are more costly of course. Even the multibionta has inulin (fructose, sucrose,glucose) in it which I think could not be too good for me as I have a very high level of glucose malabsorption according to my Hydrogen breath test. So I haven't started taking that yet.
However, I have doubled the dosage of B2 and found a minimal improvement. I don't care about the diarrhoea as long as I see an improvement. I've been taking it for 6 days and have found it does help (a bit) used alongside my gruelling diet, taken after meals 100mg 4 times a day. Went to see 'Billy Elliot' in the crowded Victoria Palace theatre yesterday (a MUST see!) and nobody near me was reacting. So thanks for the B2 advice everyone!

I believe every expert that has commented on Vit B2 says it is excellent for FMO3 deficiencies. I would think so since the names of each contain the word, "flavin" - riboflavin and flavin mono oxygenase. It should have something to do with each other.
I am still trying to see if 2 other vitamins I take are the culprits of BO. My gyno has prescribed 50K (yes, thousand) units of Vitamin D, one capsule a week for 8 weeks while taking 1500 mg of calcium a day to see if it helps stop my osteoporosis process. It seems that every time I take it, my odor gets much worse for the next couple of days. I've already taken 7 doses, and it does seem to be the pattern.
If I remember correctly, I believe Maureen posted in the other forum that Vit D is a steroid? We don't have access to that post yet right now. In other words, perhaps not all vitamins are easily metabolized by a deficient FMO3???
A few years ago, I also took Vitamin K, and it was absolutely horrible how it triggered my odor. I smelled medicinal until I stopped. It's difficult to describe the odor it produced. As soon as I stopped taking it, that particular odor went away.
It seems that even though people who don't have FMO3 complications, or gut dysbiosis conditions, find it healthy and beneficial to take these vitamins, and eat seafood, beans, eggs, etc., those with these conditions need to be careful.
Having said all this, I still agree, and it appears that experts agree, that for FMO3 deficiencies, riboflavin (Vit B2) is beneficial.

Hi everyone, I started taking B2 because I heard that it helps body odor sufferers, however, I cannot smell myself so, I do not know definitively that it is working for me. I am taking 200mg daily.
Maria, you brought up a funny coincidence in your post. I started taking a calcium supplement again. In fact, taking it has become one of the highlights of my day (caramel flavored chew). I have noticed that since I started taking this supplement again that I am getting more coughing and dirty looks. Has anyone else experienced an increase in symptoms for taking calcium?

It's probably the sugar in the calcium supplement that is causing the dirty looks and coughing. Maybe you should just try a normal calcium supplement that does not contain sugar

Hi optimistic,
I have not had increased odor with calcium that I have noticed. I was referring to the mega dose of Vit D 50K IU per caps once a week prescribed by my doctor. Since Maureen mentioned in the previous forum that Vit D is a steroid, I raised the question about whether such high doses of Vit D could be an overload to my FMO3s, though I am not certain that it is the cause. It was more of a question than an answer.
I do agree with jaxthemax, that one should look at what what additional ingredients the vitamins have. I know that some of the B complex vitamins actually say in their ingredients listing that they contain choline, though not all do.
I also chew the calcium caramels or chocolates and it doesn't seem to bother me in terms of odor levels. My odor increases with seafood, eggs, beans, garlic, and onions mainly. But I have no doubt that sugar or dairy may affect other people, as we don't all have the same cause of odor.

Good point JC, B2 needs to be protected from light so always buy the light block/ tinted bottle brand.

hi ..im having a hard time on searching for riboflavin here in the philippines, and most of the vitamin b complex here only have B1,B6, and B12 only... but i found a multivitamin which is enervon that has Vit B1 50 mg, vit B2 20 mg, vit B6 5 mg, vit B12 5 mcg, nicotinamide 50 mg, Ca pantothenate 20 mg, vit C 500 mg
im worried if i take this more than once i may overdose the vitamin c...is it ok to take it more than once?

The vitamin C won't do you any harm at all but you probably shouldn't take double doses of multivit because of some fat soluble minerals etc. I'd search down another form of B2, especially as some people take quite high doses to get an effect.
