Hi. in my country do not know about tmau, do not test. but I found a lab where they can learn the contents of trimethylamine and trimethylamine oxide in the urine. I want to ask those who know and who did the test. 1. Do I have big loads of choline before the test? 2.what normal limits of these substances? and what units they are measured? 3.If the analysis will be normal if there is a possibility that I have tmau anyway? tmau2? 4.If need to load that choline is better to eat before test? thanx 5.how do you know tmau2? what test?

Hi,
Some of your questions will depend on where you are testing. Where I tested, I was required to take 3 grams of choline after the initial sample. (there were two samples taken). The normal ranges will depend on what unit of measure the lab uses.
The difference between Tmau1 and Tmau2 is that 1 is genetic, and 2 is all other causes. They should both show the same way on the urine test,, but depending on what measurements you get from the lab they may guess at tmau1 or 2. The only way to be sure is a DNA test. I wish you the best.
What lab/doctor are you going through?

is whether the analysis of one sample without choline and loads? I think to do so

yes treatment for TMAU2 is antibiotics and diet.
The antibiotics are used to reduce the total level of the bacteria in the gut. While the diet is used to reduce the intake of choline. Both of these measures should reduce the smell. With this condition the results seem to differ enormously between patients. As we have no way of detecting are odour our selves it is also hard to judge the results.

You need to take a choline load before you test. But I have heard that you shouldn't eat fish as this can affect the results.
Do you have a lab you can get tested through?

I would be leary of testing with a lab who has not done this before. Where are you located? It might be possible to have the lab send it to a known testing center. you don't want to get inaccurate results.
I would definitely do a load. My suggestion would be to do 3 grams choline before bed and do your sample first thing in the morning. This should show wether your body is converting the choline.

Oh - TMAU 2 is only 'curable' iF it is caused by bad bacteria in the gut. Yet I have not heard of one person being cured by this method.

Thank you for your support! I do not know how accurate the results will be, but I hope that they will be accurate. I will do before a test load of choline

Guys, what the reasons may be tmau2? Bacteria in the gut, the female cycle ... what else could be causing a secondary form?

There are many - including unknown reasons for tmau2.
