Re: tongue is always white
might just be mucus from post nasal drip / acid reflux? i have it to and think its contributing to my bad breath.. mucus feeds bacteria. also if I do indeed have TMAU then my mucus is stinky to begin with.
see an ENT.

Re: tongue is always white
Hi zinc is the key and vilenin89,
We have alot of very interesting threads in this forum involving the topic of white tongue, the bacteria in the dorsal tongue, tongue scraping, neti pot nasal rinse, tonsilloliths, and who knows what else, HA,HA... You can do a search (see right upper menu) and use some of these keywords, and you'll get a wealth of information. I find that what has helped me and my son the most is what I explained in this post,
My son had a thick white layer covering his tongue that was extremely odorous, and now it's gone. Unfortunately, if he gets lazy with the tongue scraping, it starts to develop again.
Honestly, we do believe that he has ONLY to manage his odor for a year and 8 months now, but believe me, there's been NO cure... WHY DO YOU THINK I'M SO DRIVEN TO RESEARCH?!
To give you an idea, this weekend he went to LA with friends. Of course he drank and ate alot, and his breath is kicking, though it doesn't fill a room as he breathes through his nose as it used to. You can smell it if he talks at close proximity straight into your face. His tongue is a good color, and his teeth immaculate, with no throat infection; it's just coming from his lungs. Now he has to clean out all the toxins from the alcohol and wrong foods, and he'll control it again. That's the story of his life for his pas year and 8 months.
Anyways, I hope these help.

The white coating on your tongue could indicate you have a candida problem. Perhaps cutting out sugar. wheat and yeast can help.

Re: tongue is always white
You might have a point there (about having a fungal infection on his tongue). When he was an infant, he had oral thrush. The white spots were more patchy, and he was treated with mycostatin that I would rub on his tongue and gums. But what he developed while his odor was strong (for 8 years) was the whole tongue on the upper part and sides being completely covered in a white layer of something, that would come off slightly with the tongue scraper.
He never did treat it with medication, since infancy. I thought it had gone away, and never thought of it again until you mentioned it now. I always thought it was more bacterial or even part of his post-nasal-drip and allergy condition.
I think he just needs to have a culture and sensitivity done on his tongue to determine exactly what microorganisms are there, and how it reacts to the various meds. Unfortunately, he will have to wait to be tested now because he lost his medical insurance coverage when he lost his job when his employer did away with all the technician positions to cut costs. God forbid he should get sick now, he has no medical insurance.
I'll talk to him about it. Maybe the clinic at the university where he's studying now will do it. We'll see.
jeanjeanie, thanks for pointing it out.

Re: tongue is always white
Hi Zink,
I got coated toungue before as well,
the technique i used is by using a simple thin cloth & toothpaste,
firstly, cover your index & middle finger with the dry cloth,
and then try to clean your whole tongue,
especially the back of your tongue,
after that, you will see the cloth covered with white creamy coated things,
try to clean the cloth with water again,
and this time, put some toothpaste on the cloth,
try to clean it and rub your tongue,
and then rinse your mouth with water,
and clean again for the last time with cloth only.
Lastly, you will have pink & red tongue,
your tongue will feel very comfortable and clean.
Try it in the morning after you woke up,
after lunch, after dinner and before you sleep,
you will have pinky and comfortable tongue whole days,
eventually, the bad breast will gone with the winds as well.
I did it for more than 4 years & it works pretty well for me.
Best try,
all the best....
I personally found out tongue scrapper only will hurt our tongue,
sometimes it made our tongue bleeding,
and it doesn't clean so well.

Hi Zinc Is The Key,
I suffer from bad breath and that white coating as well. I finally have a pink tongue after many months of scraping and using every mouthwash known to man! They dont work for me. I got help from reading a post by green bay 27 on curezone. You might want to give his routine a go. Good luck. bbgirl

Re: tongue is always white
I also have a white coating on my tongue most of the time. The worst is in the morning. I do notice a lot of other people without bb have this too. I think breathing a lot through your mouth has something to do with it. I know I breathe through my mouth in my sleep because my nasal passages are partially blocked. Also, when the tongue is really white I have a bad taste in my mouth.
From my research, the white tongue could be a sign of a weakened immune system, or the body's inability to adequately control the Candida population in the mouth.
BBGirl, would you mind linking to the mentioned protocol, or briefly listing what exactly you followed from that protocol and how soon you saw results? Thanks.

Re: tongue is always white
chances are your white tongue is NOT thrush related, most likely mucus and bateria.
Could be made worse by PND or mucus in the throat. I have a deivated septum and some acid reflux making mine worse and I hope to get that corrected asap.

Re: tongue is always white
Hi Lataralus,
I would be more than happy to list what has worked for me. GRAPE SEED EXTRACT capsules. I think they have a anti-fungal effect.
A diet that consists of no sugar. Green Bay 27 gave up dairy but I have not had too. I also read were cinnamon gum helps with bad breath and IT DOES!!!!!! Who knew something would help that is so easy available and cheap! Here is Green Bay 27's post:
Steps to Take –
1) STOP Right away Right now – ALL Dairy, Red Meat, Egg and Beans (As well as any high sulfur/ smelly foods)
2) If Candida/yeast is a problem – Stop All sugars, junk and Alcohol.
3) Probiotics – Find a good probiotic, and take double or triple the dosage. Use what you feel is effective for you. Our digestive systems are in much worse conditions than others so our bodies require more. Remember the BB is a symptom.
4) Constipation – Work towards becoming more regular. You want to have at least 1 bowel movement a day. Taking blended flaxseed with some fruit and drinking lots of water has helped in keeping me regular. Plus it is important to regularly flush out all the toxins in your body.
5) Supplements – Take Calcium/Magnesium, Zinc, B Complex, Niacin, Double dosage of Vitamin C, and Biotin is said to help with Candida.
6) Digestive Enzymes – are a must. We need help with digesting foods so it’s a good idea to take this with every meal.
7) Antifungal – If Candida/yeast is a problem take a form of antifungal in either Grape Seed Extract, Garlic, Pau d’ Arco etc. I personally drink the Pau d’Arco tea.
Now I’m Fecal BB Free, I’m able to talk to people, make new friends, going out. The people who used to cover their noses now get in my face with zero reactions. It’s SURREAL.
Conclusion – My conclusion is our digestive system is significantly impaired and is the main cause of the Fecal BB. While I do not know exactly how or why it causes this problem in some people, I do believe that resolving the problems by putting back Good bacteria, killing yeast overgrowth, using digestive enzymes and regularizing bowel moments will help cure this problem.

Zinc is the key,
Many scientists are sceptical but I personally believe that your white tongue coating and your bromhidrosis are indeed related. I have both of these too. I used to think my breath was the real nasty but I have recently found out the real nasty is my under-arms. I can never smell myself but can stink out a whole house quite easily.
Have you got a tongue scraper? I can largely eliminate my breath odour by scraping the white tongue plaque with a stainless steel scraper 3 times a day. If I gargle with diet coke afterwards it is even better. Anyway, this should get rid of the fecal bad breath. Try asking a friend or someone you trust. Get them to smell the tongue scrapings and see what a face they make!
You could always scrape the tongue in addition to the suggestions by bbgirl.
