Just read this article "Mercaptans and other volatile sulfur compounds in wine" by Jamie Goode and I was amazed how the odours he described "sewage", "rubbery", cabbage" were just the ones we with tmau complain of, but here comes the interesting bit I think. He knew which chemical was causing each smell. The wine industry have money to research anything that taints their product and loses them sales. Just wondered if it shed light on anything? I'm hopeless at chemistry but there are clever people out there like Arun and co.

Re-read the article and the main source of trouble is yeast. That has been suggested as a possible source of our odours in the past I think? I always knew wine was deadly for my condition too. Seeing GP this week will ask about some sort of yeast detox if that is possible. Hope you all have a good few days it is hard to keep going sometimes.

I googled that article and read it, too. Good stuff, and I do think it IS quite pertinent for us odor sufferers. I was thinking if I could know what others were smelling, I would maybe be able to research what compound makes that odor.
Unfortunately, I think my odor has become even worse, so I know what you mean about sometimes days can be difficult!

Thanks for sharing this article with us, Pat. From the article, "...if yeasts are having a hard time finding enough nitrogen in the musts, they¡¦ll make use of the amino acid cysteine as a nitrogen source. Cysteine contains sulfur..."
We probably should avoid food that contains cysteine so that we do not feed the yeast.
Do we have more yeast in our bodies than non-smelly people? How do we lower the amount of yeast in our bodies?

candida is a condition that arises from a yeast infection. A candida cleanse and diet can be used to get rid of yeast. However this is veru different from the TMAU diet.
