Hi Maria, Thank you for letting us know the nature of the posting problem you experienced. It is curious that you and Snowflake experienced this but not others. I think your browser cookies may have become corrupted. Anyway, it is reassuring for you both that you can post as Guests if that ever happens again.
I regularly eat fish and also sunflower seeds as both of these have beneficial oils and are a source of protein that does not make me smell (unlike lamb). I have FBO not TMAU so I have no problem eating these foods.

I too suffer with FBO and do not have a bad reaction when I eat fish.
It was interesting what you said maria about are bodies crying out for healthy foods. I have been doing the Candida diet for about a month (although I was eating cheese without realising for a couple of weeks). At the start of the diet I didnt have any huge cravings for foods that I couldn't eat. As the diet has gone on I have started to get huge cravings for sugar and bread. I know these foods are the main triggers of my FBO, I wonder if my body is craving these things because the bacteria that feed on them are starving and it is a physical reaction to replenish them. Just a theory I have. As ever with these things I have no way to determine if this is actually the case. Does anyone else crave the foods that they find worst affect their malodour?

Hi Arun and Adrianmcc, Arun, I cleaned out my cookies to see if that would help prevent this from happening, and I also changed my password here. It's working alright now, thanks. I do wish I could eat all the fish I want...I would live on fish. In fact, my sons were "constructed" with fresh fish and lobster my husband would catch while I was pregnant. I suppose it's OK for the fetus because a 2001 FMO Paper : Study on Human FMO1 and FMO3 development says that FMO1 is the main hepatic form of enzymes developed before birth, and FMO3 after birth. I suppose that what might have mattered was how my FMO3 enzyme was metabolizing such extreme levels of TMAO while I was pregnant. To top it all, I loved accompanying the seafood with broccoli and sometimes black beans and rice. Well, that's water over the bridge at this point. Nonetheless, I have tested myself and as I eat more and more fish, my odor level increases, and when I stop, it decreases, and my husband can vouch for that. Adrian, my acupuncturist, who has also studied alot about nutrition says that the body craves that which we are addicted to as well. Pediatricians say that some studies have indicated that babies who have been given the opportunity to select which foods they want to eat tend to select a balanced meal. However, as we grow, we tend to develop addictions to certain foods that may not be good for us, such as to sodas, chocolate, sweets, alcohol, etc. We tend to crave those, and may end up binging with these foods during a spell of high anxiety, depression, etc. That is not to say that our bodies stopped craving a particular nutrient it needs. I'm not a nutritionist, so I can't tell you exactly what other nutrients our bodies get from flour (carbs). I do know our bodies need glucose for energy, and glucose comes from starches and sweets, though our bodies can utilize fats and proteins as energy sources. So maybe your body just needs more energy, and it's making you crave these foods (if it's not reacting to your addiction to sweets and breads). I'm really not an expert on this topic at all. I think jcc knows alot more about this than I do. Here's an interesting article that explains the Krebs cycle, (very roughly) which is the basic energy source (cellular metabolism that produces energy) of the body. There is much to be said about fighting addictions to sweets and maintaining a low sugar and low carb diet, but after I got out of the hospital with diverticulitis, my gastro's nutritionist told me that too low carbs diet, like the Atkins diet is very harmful to the digestive system. I don't know where to draw the line either. I suppose all extremes are bad. Maria
