I believe that a lot of people on here have no form of hope. I understand why one would feel that way, because a disorder like this can be debilitating and misunderstood. People tend to believe that you are dirty and a person who doesn't care about yourself when in fact you are a person who is probably much cleaner than them, but that is all besides the point that I am trying to make. I feel as human beings there are going to be problems you are going to have in your life and I believe every person has a reason for what they go through. I feel like people on here tend to lean towards the negative than the positive. Some people on here tend to attack others who talk about how they've gotten rid of their odor and how they have it completely under control where people do not cover their noses or cough around them. I was absolutely shocked at how I saw other board members here tear down another person for talking about what helped them, you can't just assume that the people who speak of their answer to their odor problems are spammers. That's why we have a lot of people here suffering from depression because every where they turn they have a doctor saying they are crazy and denying them of any help, scientists saying there is no cure, and people who don't even know us saying that we stink or are unclean and to top it off other board members who are supposed to be on the same team as us are saying "You can't get help, and there's no answer to your problem. You have it for life and there's no way to get away from it".
Just because of your own personal situation you can't assume someone else hasn't become odor free. Just because you have a severe form that you can't really get help from doesn't mean other people here are the same way. Hell, even people with a severe form have become odor free. Everyone is different and I know this has been explained many times on here but I'll say it again; Every body's body odor is caused by different things. One person may have a textbook case of TMAU and they may have a harder time finding what works and even if you do have the textbook form you can still possibly live a odor free life. Some people have TMAU2 from a bacterial overgrowth and they find probiotics and antibiotics work extremely well for them a person with an enzyme deficiency only may not find much a relief from it as much as a person with the secondary form. It all depends on whats causing it. I personally, don't know if I have TMAU or not but I believe I do, and if I don't I might have some sort vitamin deficiency. Some people have this problem only during their menses and usually resolves after they've gotten over their menstrual cycle. Some people just have a really really bad diet along with tmau2 which is causing their problem. There's many causes and there's other factors to considered like your personal body chemistry. Compare your odor to your parents and if you share the same odor it's most likely genetic. I believe there's an answer to each persons problem but the answer first starts with MENTAL STRENGTH without mental strength you won't have the will power to fixing the problem. If you feel like this; "Well, there's no cure for this I just have to call off from work everyday, isolate myself from my friends and stay to myself because there's no help" you are NEVER going to find an answer to your problem. You have to be BOLD and STAND UP and MAKE THAT CHANGE in your life! If you are not backing your own self up then nobody will and you will be depressed forever! The change starts with you!
Don't be another victim of the; "I can't do this diet so I will continue to eat these hamburgers and all the unhealthy stuff because there's no way out." and then go to work the next day and feel embarrassed again because everyone thinks you stink! You are creating that vicious cycle for yourself!! You are keeping your problem going. Go out there and be brave and try it out, you never know until you try. There are people who live odor free lives now, you just have to be smart and supplement all of the nutrients that the diet does not include. Also, if you really feel like going out and eating that burger or eating something you know you shouldn't at least try to be smart with it and plan it out, make sure you don't have to work or go to school. If you feel you are close to your menses, time everything if you are having an odor problem the odor would usually get worse 2 weeks before your cycle starts so try to go on a low choline diet before hand so you can have the lowest smell possible and if you can't do that try to change your availability the two weeks and during your period is due if possible. Some people don't have a job where they can just change their availability and I sympathize with you.
All I'm saying is, look at other people with the disorder who have overcame it, don't keep thinking about all the people who have negative experiences. The fastest way to healing is to have a healthy mind. My problem seems to be more hormonal so I have make sure I eat right before my menses hopefully it will work for me and I will look at other people who have had a positive outcome instead of the ones who have negative ones. Another reason as to why a lot of us feel so negative and depressed is because of the lack of knowledge we have about this disorder, if you don't know how to treat it you will constantly have negative experiences. That is why there needs to be more media coverage on this disorder. We also need more positive role models who do decide to come out and speak on this, instead of the ones who always talk about how hard it is for them. I understand it's hard but we also have to show them that we are just as strong as any normal person. When the media usually does decide to cover this disorder they LOVE to play sad music in the background or some very eerie type of music to make a persons emotion very low. When people like us watch that on tv it makes us feel hopeless. They need to cover the situation in a much different manner, I'm not saying a way where it takes the seriousness out of the disorder but show it in a way where it's not making people feel even lower about themselves. Just look at the interview with people on youtube that have TMAU they always bring that sad or eerie music in, that triggers a hopeless attitude in the sufferers mind who is watching it. This disorder is no different than diabetes, it has a different effect but it is all a metabolic problem. We are not contagious so they should show us in a different light. Do not watch those interviews where the interviewee constantly tries to drag this sadness out of the B.O sufferer to raise their views, they are only exploiting people with this disorder to their own advantage. First, make a change in your life and try to help yourself and then try to come public with and if you decide to get interviewed don't let them drag sadness out of you for their personal interest, try to show you positive outcome as a positive role model to others who are suffering. Once we have more positive role models out there who don't dwell in their sadness and more role models who have learned how to live an odor free life we will have MORE people that will have the strength to step forward and talk about this issue so we will have more exposure and awareness on this problem. We might also have more people come forward and the disease might not be considered as rare any more because people are afraid to talk on a subject like this.
Once again, CHANGE YOU so YOU CAN CHANGE THE WORLD!
Peace,
p.s Remember, I know it's hard to live with something like this but try not to post too many negative comments on here about your life, there are other people who are suffering that are new to this that are already thinking about suicide, try to post positive things I'm not saying ignore your problems, it's ok to post your hardships but when you go on saying things like; "There is no cure" remember there's one more person who cries every night when they see things like that. Remember....
Keep it POSITIVE!
