Hello all. A while back ago I was tested for TMAU. I was happy with the results for awhile since it stated that I was normal. But now it's really starting to bother me that I was not instructed to do a choline load for the test. Does this mean that the results for this test are pretty much useless? I plan on getting retested soon (using a choline load), but I'm terrified at what the results will be since my current results, even without the choline load, look a little low to me. Here are the results for anyone interested:
TMA = 1.1 umole/mmolecreat TMAO = 19.9 umole/mmole creat %TMAO = 94.6%
and then after that, the reference ranges:
Normals (pre-choline load): TMA = 0.12-2.10 umole/mmole creatinine TMAO = 9.0-244 umole/mmole creatinine %TMAO = > 85%
Can anyone clarify what they mean by saying "pre-choline load" in parentheses after "Normals"? I'm guessing that it means that these reference ranges are specifically for results that were not affected by a choline load. Now I'm just worried about how much lower the results would be with a choline load. Any insight would be GREATLY appreciated.

I'm a bit surprised that no one has any input on this. Did I not make any sense?

Hi paige90. Please don't feel bad nobody put an input. You are not being ignored. We are family but I think none of the members has any background nor training to read such result. That's just it. We care about you. Let us know what the doctors say

Paige, it looks like you are processing 94.6% of choline. That is a good normal number and not even borderline( 86.1- high 8o's).
Some places do a "pre-choline load" by taking a choline pill after you collect the first urine( 24 hour test). Others say you just need to do it when you have an odor??
Did you do a single urine or 24 hour? Sorry if you felt ignored but summer is almost ended. Like me I am away a lot and miss many messages.

Thank you much for your replies, guys. Sharon, it was just a single urine sample given right at the hospital that day, not a collection over twenty-four hours. I ate regularly, and I have always avoided many of the foods that contain high amounts of choline (I'm a very picky eater). My odor doesn't seem to get any worse when I do eat something high in choline, however. I guess I just need to test again, this time with a choline load, and see what happens.
