I have GI problems (I suspect SIBO, My doctor thinks colitis, and so far the specialist thinks IBS... I wouldn't be at all surprised if we're all wrong), and recently I have gone on a dairy free Diet to see if that would help and it has to a certain degree.
I'm pretty sure i don't have diary intolerance as a primary condition as I don't have lactose intolerance symptoms... Anyway, since going on this diet I have developed terrible bad breath, and I mean terrible. People across the other side of a mid size open plan office are complaining, everyone has windows Open and the smell has been compared to faeces, pig slurry, farmyard fertilizer etc... not good.
I have a white coat on my tongue which I can scrape off but the tongue remains white even after scrapping, and the coating comes back within about 1.5 hrs.
So basically: What the hell?

The white coating and the bad breath could be candida die off symptoms. And usually with candida die off, things get worse for awhile before they get better. I have gone through this. When I was going through the heavy die off phase, I couldn't even go driving because people in other cars nearby could detect a very foul odor.
I would say, though, don't stop the diet because stopping it could just make things worse in the long run. But you might want to go to the doc NOW and get tested for candida. Easy test.
Probiotics do help for this. And if breath is the problem, there is a strain of probiotic called BLIS K12 Streptococcus salivarius that has been shown to help the mouth and throat. Although it does sound like a deeper digestive issue manifesting a bad breath symptom. If it is IBS, lactobacillus plantarum is the probiotic that has been shown to help with this.
