Hi
..... ‘Not only did they figure out what was causing the bad smell, they took their library of ingredients and looked at how they can combine different things and then they were able to create something that when, you mix it in, even the bad stuff doesn’t smell so bad,’ Gates explained.
....By knowing which scents were the worst, Firmenich could reverse-engineer its counterpart: a smell that, as Gates describes, masks "stinky sewage, sweat, and ripe cheese" with "a pleasant floral scent."
Has anybody read about Bill Gates’ latest joint venture with a company called Firmenich who have found a way of reverse-engineering odours like sewage sweat and ripe cheese, replacing them with a pleasant floral scent?
Okay, these odours were not from body odour but from feces, and toilets. However, I just wondered if this company could help people with odours?
If they develop this spray for toilets it means people’s noses cannot detect the smell of sewage, urine, feces etc, and only pick up the floral scent. Similar to febreze only more scientific. Could they devise a spray that a human could use which would work the same? You could spray it all over your body, and anyone near to you finds their nasal passages ‘neutralised’ to any bad smells coming from you, they could only smell a floral odour? While it doesn’t get to the root of each individual’s odour problems and cures it, it could perhaps give people their life back?? Too far fetched??
Maybe its a longshot, maybe the technology isn’t quite there yet, but perhaps Bill Gates would be willing to fund some research for odour sufferers as a side line to his current experiments??
You should read the story in the news about Bill Gates’ experiments and see what you think. I have copied some info below for your interest.

In India and other poor countries, sanitation continues to be a problem — some 800,000 children under 5 die annually from diarrhea or other sanitation-related ailments.
Although pit latrines give people a place to defecate, many smell so bad that people choose to go out in the open, which creates public-health threats by allowing bacteria and disease to spread.
Gates' solution to this problem: Partner with Firmenich, a 120-year-old perfume company, to develop an "anti-poop" scent that masks bad odors in the same way noise-cancelling headphones use wave patterns to block noise.
Essentially, the perfume acts as a high-tech Febreze, blocking the receptors in your nose that cause you to perceive bad odors. The hope is that by spraying the product in latrines will encourage people to use them, since the smell will no longer seem so offensive.
