This is the cure for Leaky Gas, which some people call fecal body odour. I've had IBS for all of my life, since my teens. I believe people with IBS have a sensitivity to certain proteins in certain foods: lectins in wheat & white potatoes, phytates in nuts, and high FODMAPs. As the IBS progressively gets worse (because we keep eating the foods that harm us) we find that any high starch food feeds bacteria so have to exclude this as well. I had to cut out sugar as well.
The safest food for IBS is animal protein. For me, the safest carbs are the low fermenting carbs and I'm sure this would be true for everyone. Low fermenting carbs are mostly insoluble fibre, which bacteria don't eat much of. Vegetables like carrots, zucchini, cucumber, olives, tomato, lettuce, avocado. If you're not used to the fibre you have to gradually introduce it.
This is a really tough diet which is why you don't here many success stories. I've included my website so hope this is allowed:

I've tried to include all the things I've learned over the years.
The actual leaky gas / FBO is from incomplete evacuation. Maldigested food residue travels through the small intestine and colon and bacteria fed on this, causing gas as a byproduct. Stool is mostly composed of bacteria, but I believe there is a lot of gas either in or around incompletely evacuated stool. I have found that if I eat a problem food like wheat the evacuation is more prolonged a day or two after. If I just stick to my tough diet, evacuation is a lot quicker and thorough.
Dr Pimentel authored a study that shows that methane gas causes constipation. I have found that the gas from malabsorbed carbs causes a type of pseudo-blockage for me. There is a long wait between BMs punctuated by bouts of gas. I believe the gas physically blocks the stool. It's not pelvic floor dysfunction as some people claim. I don't get this at all when I stick to my diet.
