Progress after Disaster
Been having issues with smell related to "die off." Well, let me back-track. Sweating has been a huge issue for me for the last few years. Hard to stay and smell clean when you're constantly sweating. I carry soap, deo, a hand towel and extra shirts and underwear everywhere. It's to the point where I'll change my shirt anywhere, anytime, even in public. I just don't care anymore. I would rather have on a clean shirt than a funky one.
Anyway, doctors have been misdiagnosing me for years. I've had test after test. I was taking a medicine that MADE ME SICKER! It literally sucked the nutrients from my body and weakened me overall.
I know now, through a long and convoluted journey, and speaking to three alternative practitioners, I know I have leaky gut syndrome for sure. I also have some sort of either bacteria, fungus and/metal toxicity. I am getting a live blood cell analysis in two weeks which I hope will pinpoint the issue exactly so I can narrow my treatment.
Anyway, my odors have changed over time, mostly from bad to worse. At first, I exuded the smell of blood anytime I drank anything except water. Culprit = leaky gut + uterine fibroids.
After I stopped menstruating (due to toxicity) the blood smell was gone but then a horrid smell would rise up, like rancid, decaying metal. It was like an engine was revving up. How off putting is that? Suddenly I'm talking to someone and the odor, almost like a dragon, would rise up out of my body. The last time this happened was at the job in May while I was talking to a group of people. I just stooped down so that the smell wouldn't hit them in the eyes. Luckily, my Ayurvedic doctor recommended Ashwangandha. This worked like a charm and got rid of that particular smell and occurrences.
But, alas, the problem became some type of die-off. I guess because I started drinking kombucha and eating a lot of goat dairy w/ probiotics to support my digestive system. Horrid smell like puke! I stopped eating/drinking those things and also stopped taking S. Boulardii ( a yeast eater). Die-off is a mf, pardon my French! It's like, you're trying to help your body by killing the yeast but it smells so freaking bad! Someone yelled after me in the street, "you stinking bitch," or something like that, as I walked past one day. I also had to stop taking some great supplements given to me by a naturopathic doctor for yeast, for the same reason.
On the good side, I started picking my own broad-leaf plantain leaves (a weed) at the park and boiling several leaves once a week for a foot bath. This really helps with pulling out heavy metals (which overtax your liver and kidneys). I recommend this to everyone because we all have metals in our system. You can buy the tincture, I guess, but I only know about the real leaves.
So I went back to the Auyrvedic doctor who said that my system is too acidic. (One of my symptoms is that I cannot digest food or pass it through my system without eating flax seeds or taking Triphala). Triphala, by the way, REALLY HELPS WITH DIE-OFF, I discovered. It pulls stuff from your body the way charcoal does but it has a beneficial effect on the liver and other organs. I recently ran out and back came the die-off smell, like a plague. Planetary Herbs sells a good one.
She also said to drink Aloe Vera juice. I got a good whole leaf one without preservatives from Lily of the Desert. I made the mistake of taking the aloe when I had run out of the Triphala and the die-off was terrible!
So I started following an acid/alkaline balance diet. Super hard because you pretty much have to memorize which foods are acidic and which are alkaline. A lot of good stuff I was eating, like aduki beans (good for liver) and walnut butter (for the omega 3's) are acidic. (*sigh, this is madness!).
Anyway, animal proteins are all acidic but it's okay to eat them once in a while. So I had some wild sardines preserved in olive oil for dinner Thursday along with some quinoa. I had the same thing for breakfast the next day. WHOA! Horrible day yesterday. Clearly I wasn't digesting the sardines because I was sweating partially digested sardine odor from my pores. Yes, the room I was in started smelling like it, it hung in the air! And since I was the only one in the room, it clearly had to be me. I could see it on people's faces whenever they walked in. Very, very disturbing and upsetting. I just really lose my mind and can't think or hardly talk from embarrassment whenever something like this happens.
I came home and cheated with a cupcake. But I also started took the aloe again for the second time; 2 ounces last night and 2 ounces this morning. (I was really scared of die-off but it was the weekend plus I had my trusty Triphala this time around). The aloe facilitated a couple of putrid B.M.'s (partially digested sardines!). It's such a shame because sardines are a super food filled with calcium and Vit. D. and other great things. I think the problem may have been that they were in olive oil, which is acidic and not good for leaky gut. i might try them again in water.
Lastly - on a good note, I woke up without any smell! I even took a strenuous yoga class and sweated up a storm without a bad smell, that hadn't happened in quite a while. I was even able to just use cold water and a hand towel to freshen up and go out in the street with no deodorant AND NO BAD SMELL!
Conclusion - for me, the aloe vera juice and triphala are working a miracle, (along with the ashwangandha, wide leaf plaintain leaf, a super multi vitamin from New Chapter, fish oil, and some C and B vitamins.) I just hope this isn't a fluke! Still sweating though...

Triphala
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Emblica officinalis
Triphala is an Ayurvedic[1] herbal rasayana formula consisting of equal parts of three myrobalans, taken without seed: Amalaki (Emblica officinalis), Bibhitaki (Terminalia bellirica), and Haritaki (Terminalia chebula).[2] The word triphala (better triphalā, from Hindi/Sanskrit: त्रिफला [t̪rɪˈpʰəlaː], widely pronounced /triːˈfɑːlə/ or /triːˈfælə/ by English speakers) means literally “three fruits”.[2]

[edit] Medicinal use
In traditional Ayurvedic medicine, Triphala is used for:
immune system stimulation[3]
improvement of digestion[2][4]
relief of constipation[2][4]
gastrointestinal tract cleansing[4]
relief of gas[2]
treatment of diabetes[2]
treatment of eye disease[2]
These health claims have not been yet tested in clinical trials. Even within the practice of Ayurvedic medicine, there are controversies about the composition (amlaki, haritaki and bibhitaki), preparation, and medicinal uses of Triphala.[5]
The Health Effects of Triphala
Test-tube studies have suggested that triphala offers antioxidant, bacteria-killing, and immune-enhancing benefits. And in animal-based research, scientists have shown that the herbal blend may help keep cholesterol in check.
In other studies on animals, triphala has demonstrated anti-cancer effects. A report published in 2008, for instance, found that feeding triphala to mice helped suppress the growth of pancreatic cancer cells. It's important to remember, though, that animal studies do not prove equal effectiveness in humans.
Triphala for Detox
Although ayurvedic practitioners often use triphala to promote the cleansing of toxins from the body, there's no clinical-trial-based evidence that the formula can act as a detox or weight loss supplement.
How to Use Triphala
Choose triphala capsules (available at health food stores) instead of the powdered form. If you're using triphala to treat constipation, keep in mind that it's generally safe to take triphala on a longer-term basis (unlike other, harsher laxatives).

This is interesting.
Over the years, my armpits have changed from a sweaty stink to a strange metallic stench that induces coughing (like burnt cigarette smoke).
I think it's due to many years of using antiperspirants that contain traces of aluminum, I think it's been absorbed into my body.
I seriously need to change my lifestyle, I haven't been exercising for months.

Re: Progress after Disaster
Dairy makes me smell bad as well, I remember I bought a probiotic that was suppose to have 20 billion bacteria per serving or something like that. Anyways, I had a class the next day where I would have to sit very close to people and I really didn't want to smell bad in front of them. So the night before I drank down a big serving of the probiotic drink and hoped for the best, but as the next day came I could see that I was giving off an even worse reaction than I did previously. I could hear people that were sitting in back of me saying that I smelled like shit and what not. The reason I think I had a worse time was the fact that the probiotic drink was pretty much a dairy/drinkable yogurt product that also contained some fructose(my two arch enemies). So I would suggest to take a capsule probiotic because they're don't contain any fructose or lactose, and they can reduce your odor (from my personal experience). Also if you need to look at a alkaline chart I have one located in my blog, heres the link

Hi SupplementSally
Interesting reading about what you've found helpful, especially Triphala. If it can do what charcoal does without leeching nutrients it could be very useful. I wonder if I can buy this in Europe with our recent ridiculous EU restrictions on herbs.
Just wondering - if you managed to get to the point of die off, was it not worthwhile sticking it out for the long term benefit? I've found Aloe Vera to have a nice calming effect on digestion, I'm not sure it's powerful enough to cause instant die offs though? Not in my own experience anyway.
