Hey folks,
I'm new here. After struggling with Fecal Body Odor for a long time, I finally decided to be proactive and find out the cause. I pursued the Candida diet for quite some time. More recently I took a CDSA. The test indicated that no yeast was present (beneficial or otherwise) but I did receive a 4+ Citrobacter Freundii.
I have attempted to enlist the help of various doctors and specialists. However, most of them are unwilling to believe there is a connection between the C. Freundii and the Fecal Body Odor. Moreover, most of them are unwilling to prescribe the necessary antibiotics to eliminate the strain.
Can anyone here recommend a Doctor that has seen patient with the same symptoms as me? (dysbiotic flora and fecal body odor). I'm really at a loss. My last specialist actually recommended I enlist a neurologist to help me - implying that my "condition" must be make believe.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Remember taking antibiotics kills good as well as bad bacteria. Why don't you try some natural remedies first. If you google C.freundii you will see that it can cause urinary tract infections and some people take Uva Ursa to clean their bladders of bad bacteria, it might also help your colon. Other remedies include olive leaf extract and oregano oil. They have antibacterial properties and are less like to damage good bacteria in the way antibiotics do. Having said that you need to be careful so if taking any remedies you might need to take probiotics as well to safeguard your good gut flora. If you do get antibiotics, you must take probiotics alongside them.
You don't mention what the ratio of good bacteria is, although you have 4+ C.freundii, what is your bifibacteri, lactobacillicus etc?
I don't know if this is the root cause of your odour issues, have you checked that you do not have anal fissures? Is the smell definitely coming from all over your body? is it worse after you eat certain foods? What is your diet like, did you have any success on the candida diet, sometimes it takes a long time to see improvements, you might need to cut out all dairy or meat? Trial and error.
Good luck

Hey there Hope, thanks for the reply.
I am aware that antibiotics kill good bacteria. I should mention that the C. Freundii was found to be very susceptible to Grapefruit Seed Extract. The other natural antibiotics (Uva, Oregano, Silver, Caprylic) were found to be lacking in efficacy. I took a combination of these natural antibiotics alongside a high strength probiotic for 5 months. During this time I maintained my diet.
Bifi and Lacto registered as 2+ which is lower than normal.
I've been on the Candida diet for 2 years now, it has reduced my symptoms, but not eliminated them. The odor systemic and it is certainly worse after ingesting particular foods. Anal fissures are a definite no. C. Freundii is really the only explanation at this point. Particularly since all dysbiotic yeast was eliminated from my system and I continue to experience symptoms. C. Freundii has been shown to create intestinal permeability in the same way Candida can. Additionally, there is some anecdotal evidence (on this very forum) linking an overgrowth of C.Freundii -or really any other opportunistic pathogenic bacteria- to systemic fecal body odor.
What I'm really hoping is that someone with a similar experience would be able to provide some guidance. Thanks for listening!

Hi
Check out essential oil of cinnamon. There are research papers on the web including one on a study of a number of different types of bacteria including c.freundii, and the essential oil works like an antibiotic and kills it.
Hope this helps
