Hi all, I was wondering if anyone can help me. I'm thinking of going on a low sulfur diet as I suspect that could me my main problem. I know a few people referenced it on another thread but I thought I might start a new thread on this subject if that's ok. Could anyone tell me if they're on a low sulfur diet, have they had much success with it, what would they eat in a typical day and do they get many bad side effects from going withput a lot of sulfur? Thanks in advance, any info would be really appreciated.

I read on the web an article by a UK specialist doctor that fecal smell can happen when we do not digest "long chain fatty acids" (fats like butter I think). I have cut out as many fats as I can and I think I am a bit better re: fecal breath. Good luck if you try it.

Thanks Pat, that's interesting alright. Butter defo does not agree with me, but I think anything dairy is very hard for me to digest. Must do some research on google on what you said abour the long chain fatty acids. Thanks very muchfor the tip ps I was kinda hoping someone who's on a low sulfur diet might say what they eat in a typical day, any takers??

You're right - that dental health link was interesting.
It links sulphur metabolism to various odours including egg and old socks which members of our community have complained of, it also links sulfur metabolism to protein digestion / amino acid digestion in a way I was unaware of. It also talks about alcohol, sugar, "dense protein" and acids to being problematic - all things some of our community have experienced.
It mentions TMAU also, but I'm not sure their break down of TMAU is factually correct - I was under the impression TMAU odour comes from unmetabolized TMA not sulfur and nitrogen compounds (although they might become present incidentally). Maybe somebody can confirm this? If so, this is slightly annoying because you can question the accuracy of the rest of the article.

Have either of you tried taking lactase enzyme when you eat dairy? It is inexpensive and otc. I don't think this will cure you, but could help you to tolerate small amounts.

gabbyYou can take a lactase enzyme for dairy or you can try soy or almond milk as an alternative

Jax, I have TMAU and drink rice milk. I also take dairy enzymes when I eat out, etc. Just thought since the topic of dairy causing problems, I'd see if this had been tried.

wow lactase enzyme.. i'll try it.. i know for a fact milk/chocolate milk makes my smell really bad.. but have always been doubtful about enzymes..

Sulfur in foods is really stinky so avoid it. I wonder if peanuts make you smell too even in small amounts like half a cup.

Peanuts can be a huge trigger. I have TMAU and I know how they very badly affect my BO. They are very dense protein I think. Good luck keep trying to figure things out. I think we are all different but maybe general things will help us all.
