Hi, I had never heard of this until i watched embarrassing illnesses the other night. They were saying this can be used to restore bacteria levels in people who have issues, like IBS, Ulcerative Colitis, C Diff infections. If this proves to become more the norm, would this be useful in our odours as many of us seem to have issues with bacteria levels? Any thoughts please. It sounds revolting but i would do it if it would help or even cure my odours. More info here for those who do not know what it is. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fecal_bacteriotherapydigitaljournal.com/article/315877

Hi Jumpforjoy, Yes I agree, while it sounds awful this procedure might hold out real hope for us. Hopefully it will become widely available and some of the people on here could give it a go to see how it works, I'd be well up for it. Here's something I came across about it a while ago - downloads.bbc.co.uk/radio4/transcripts/20110308_cn_gutbacteria.rtf

Hi Tintin, Thats a really good article you have posted, thanks. It does say a lot of docs have never heard about this proceedure, so may be another battle to get treatment. It would be good to do a study on us odour people, think most would want to trial it. Do you think you could just walk into your gp and request it?. Not sure who my donor would be. But we will never know until we try it. Count me in.

Been having another dig around and found a forum where some guy is asking for feedback about fecal transplants by a way of a survey on survey monkey. I have filled it in and put about testing for help with odours. It still works even though its 2010 date. www.topix.com/forum/health/colitis/T4P4PVHVE52CM5CSDIts the 3rd post down. Raise the profile.

Thats great going. Unfortunately I think in the U.K. its only that Scottish doctor featured in that BBC report that does the procedure and he only does it for c. difficle infections There seems to be a number of clinics in America that does it. (I'm guessing you're in the U.K. since you used the term gp. I'm from Ireland myself). I did a bit more googling today on it and it sounds really promising, they say it has a 90percent success rate for people who have c. difficle which is way higher than any drug. And increasningly people are wondering if it would be good for other gut flora problems as well. Sad to say though I think it could take a long time for it to become available for the likes of us. Thanks for finding that survey, will do it myself.

Yes im UK unfortunatley in this case. Seems funding has been turned down for this according to TMAU UK forum. tmau.org.uk/chat/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=537I think more docs have done it in severe cases of C Diff and more of a last resort sort of thing. You would think private companies would jump on it like in other countries. Its so disheartening that there may be help but we can't try it.

Kreb are you taking about Human Probiotic Infusion mentioned in the links? If so this is another term for fecal transplant only they freeze dry the poo and bacteria and put it into capsule form. Currently not available and the survey in my link was to find out if this would be of interest to ulcerative colitis sufferers on that forum. Funnily enough whilst reading mountains of stuff connected to this method of treatment, i read that a nurse in the 50's was taught in her training to fill an empty capsule with stool and give to patients with diarrhea. so not that new a concept it seems. I have been reading lots of people are DIY'ing the proceedure and taking matters into their own hands and lots with their doctors consent. We come into contact with other peoples poo more than we like to think on a daily basis! I'm seriously thinking of diy'ing out of sheer desperation. I will keep you informed.

They currently sell probiotics in stores that are called " human form". Curious how they obtain that type?
As far as putting feces in a capsule I do not think that is wise. In this day with Hepatitis, ecoli, c-diff and other fecal born diseases how would you know the donor did not have a disease or that they were not in a carrier state?
My assumption about infusion is that the feces are obtained possibly from a fetus and tested before being inserted through the rectum via enema.
Just be patient and see where this goes before you try this on your own. There is more to it than we can comprehend.

hi krebs, sorry thought you meant the HPI. The probiotics will probably too expensive for me anyway. You can have your donor screened to be certain that they are healthy with no bugs. It has been done for years and patience is not one of my virtues, been waiting 15 years already I think how do we know until we try and lots of people are helping themselves from other afflictions such a Ulceratice Colitis, CFS, IBS, Candida with this method. I've done hours of reading. It is done by enema not by capsule usually if its DIY but some have been reported to drink it in a milkshake but a bit hardcore for me.

Hi everybody, I came across this today - www.ei-resource.org/community/groups/viewgroup/1-home-home-fecal-transplants/What a thing to be looking up but hey I'm desperate. TO be honest i don't think I'd do it myself as I have written on there I probably couldn't find a donor, am too squeamish and I'm not too sure how effective they are. (They do seem to be at least partially effective though). Actually on that other forum as well as another one I've been trying to see how many people out there would be interested in getting a proper ft done. There doesn't seem to be a gi in the U.K. or Ireland willing to do this except for c.difficle. But I was wondering if a group of us got together maybe that would make a difference. Perhaps if we could raise enough money the Medical Research Council would be willing to arrange a trial run for fts at some clinic. But anyway if you're interested I'd love to hear from you.
