Our Support site contains a bewildering mix of messages from people who suffer so many DIFFERENT types of odour conditions.
The multitude of messages are often from members having different types of odours/ odour conditions to other members!
As a result, when one reads a message from another member it is easy to feel lost as to whether that member has a similar odour problem or if it is completely dissimilar and hence irrelevant to the reader.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if members could list IN ONE PLACE everything that they know about their condition? Well that is what the Case Presentation Sub-forum is for.
It is a place where each member can put a cumulative record of all the information they know about their condition. This cumulative record (called a Case Presentation or Odour Profile) should be modified when new information becomes available.
This means that when a member discovers a new product that helps or a a food that makes the condition better/worse, they update their record. You may modify your post any number of times.
Researchers are visiting our site more often now. They really don't have the time to sift through hundreds of your messages to see what your condition is about. This new format will allow them to quickly read everything about your type of odour condition including the products/ foods that affect it.
I have asked a couple of members to take the lead and you may see their Case Presentations over the next few weeks. I am hoping that other members with the SAME type of odour symptoms will also do their case presentation so we can see a pattern developing.
By itself, a single case presentation is just a curiosity but if we can get a number of similar cases together in one place then it can open up other avenues in the future.
This format will be useful not only to researchers, but also other members of this site who have a similar condition.
When doing a Case Presentation of yourself, please don't reveal your full name or exact location. It would be wonderful if we can keep your name the same as your ID on the site so that people can relate to you.
If others feel motivated to also do their own Case histories I would be prepared to dig out all their past messages from the old BodyOdorSupport.com forum and email it to them as a single WORD document.
What I would like is for you to then copy and paste the various messages into the Medical Clerking format listed below. However, feel free to add your own subdivisions where you feel it is appropriate.
The idea is not to get you to do loads of fresh typing but instead for you to rearrange the huge number of posts (using copy and paste) you have already made so that we can get a true picture of your condition in one place.
Please use the following Clinical Clerking format used by doctors when they see a new patient:-
1 General
2 Basic Data - Username on site, age, sex, country
3 Presenting complaint (PC) - what it smells like, how far does the odour spread? Is it constant or varies?
4 History of presenting complaint (HPC)
- onset, duration, course, severity, precipitating factors, relieving factors, associated features, previous episodes, tests ordered/results
5 Past medical history (PMH) - list ALL other conditions eg dry lips, IBS
6 Social history (SH) eg living alone/ with family/ sharing a flat
7 Family History (FH) - family affected? Do they smell it/pass comments
8 Drug history (DH) - list any medications and allergies
9 Summary
Please start a new thread for each member. In the subject, type your Username on the site and the words 'Odour Profile'.
Isn't this exciting guys? Please give your feedback how we can better this.
