I'm so embarrassed people around me comment about how bad the house smells. I smell like smoke last night when all I took yesterday were probiotics, vit b complex, vit d with soybean oil, white rice and veggies for meals. Had no sugar and oily foods for almost a month. My odor isnt as bad as before this diet but today I smell like rubber or dirty shoes again!
My breath has not gone for good but it has bit improved since I started using hydrogen peroxide. But peeps still cover their noses when I talk. Whether stressed or not, the rubber odor comes and goes. I'm so puzzled what have I eaten that makes me smell such.

Same really.... yesterday I had a bad experience when someone in the street walked past me and said "<my town's name> pong" - basically saying I stink really bad, yet I had a shower and clean clothes like the same morning and couldn't smell a thing myself, and also some guys in a music store were laughing, looking at me and both rubbed their nosed really hard for like 20 seconds at the same time! Who the hell does that seriously??

Jolie, What you ate yesterday is important but so is what you ate THE WHOLE WEEK!
You see, many people with these conditions assume that the odour depends on what you ate the last meal or two. If this were true then it would be much easier to control our symptoms!
Let me give you an example. I found out some time back that alcohol affects my breath and body odour terribly. However, this greatly increased odour doesn't disappear after a few hours, it lasts 3-4 days! What's more, other people on our site who suffer from probable metabolic odour say the same thing.
If alcohol can make us smell so bad for 3-4 days then it is only reasonable to assume that other foods or drinks might affect us for even longer. So, my message is to watch what you eat for a WEEK before you have to go to a party or a social event. Some odours derived from foods can stay in our body for ages!!
Also, try scraping your tongue after eating or drinking anything. Before talking to someone, have a sip of cold water then swish it around your mouth a few seconds. It helps!
Start keeping a diary of what you eat and drink each day and how you smell that day. The rubber smell might not be related to what you just ate, it could be what you ate up to a few days ago so that's why you don't see an obvious pattern. Keeping a food diary will help establish a pattern with foods you ate several days earlier.
How much water do you drink daily Jolie? I find the more water I drink, the better my odour. Can you smell your own odour in the same way that others can? Arun

"some guys in a music store were laughing, looking at me and both rubbed their nosed really hard for like 20 seconds at the same time!"
RR30, did that really happen to you? Wow, it's a pretty sick world we're living in. Were the guys in the music store within range to be able to smell you? (I'm wondering if this was some kind of 'setup').
Have there been any other funny events happening to you that might suggest a 'setup'?
Do you drink alcohol dude? When I used to drink alcohol, my odour was really terrible the next morning and decreased gradually over 3-4 days! Chocolate and coffee are also pretty bad. Had you had either of these that morning? Arun

Hi Joliepitt
Do you have a problem with choline that you're aware of? Most vitamin B complexes contain choline in them. I don't believe I have a problem with choline myself so I take a B complex (and multivitamin).

I only eat the same set of meals every single day (white rice + low-choline veggies) and sometimes with fruits. I drink plenty of water esp. warm water. Surprisingly, the rubber odor doesn't linger today but yesterday was bad. Maybe, it was because of the overdosage of probiotic caps I took. One thing though, I always put some seasoning powder for my vegan viands. Could it be the seasoning the reason why the rubber odor?
While I'm writing this, I'm waiting for my plain rice + veggies to be cooked... no more seasoning at least for today to see if the odor comes back or not. However, it's weird because if I don't smell like rubber, I'd smell like faint onion. When someone cooks oily food, my gosh the smell sticks to my body.
I never use oils and sugar and the rest of the so-called highly cholinated foods but I still smell.
I'm thinking of going back to spirulina-chorella supps plus glutathione this time. Also, ozone therapy and bitter gourd capsules are said to help with body odor. So I will try them all. Colostrum and digestive enzymes too!

Sounds like your saying you have a problem with choline, in which case check your B complex. You could try just B2 vitamin on it's own - it's meant to support FM03 enzyme, especially if you get constant chapped lips.

Jolie, Jcc34 is right, there is choline in most vitamin b complex preparations. I know many people who experienced greatly diminished odour after trying vitamin B2. Amazingly, these are people who did not have TMAU. I believe my odour gets better after B2 supplementation.
I often get cracked lips and B2 helps with that so it probably meant I was B2 deficient. Many enzymes depend on vitamins for good function so it is always worth exploring the effects of vitamin supplements.
Sseasoning and spices may affect your odour. Generally, anything scented (garlic, spices, seasoning) will certainly come out of the pores. If I eat curry, I smell of curry afterwards.
I just wanted to say something about fruit but I really don't want to stop people from eating fruit! Fruit contains sugar. The sweeter a fruit (eg ripe plums), the more the sugar content. Now some sugars may be fine for us to take whilst other sugars (eg sucrose) may be worse. Which are worse? I really don't know. I think it is safer eating apples and bananas than ripe fleshy fruit. Okay, having said all that, I just wanted to point out that I still eat fruit! Arun

@arun
I don't think it's the b vitamins that gave me such rubbery and onion body odor. Have been smelling like such on and off ever since before I took any supplement. I guess it's the seasoning in my food which stays for days in my system. TMAU isn't my case I believe because yesterday I gobbled up variety of foods. I had cabbage, tuna with potatoes in tomato sauce, mango, plenty of bananas, and of course white rice. I also overdosed on probiotics and b complex... and the rubber odor today isn't as worse as the other day.
I decided I just eat whatever I like from now on so that I won't be deficient in proteins. I miss pork and chicken. But along with that, I have to try the ozonator first and purchase spirulina, maca, msm and glutamine. Really, I'm that freak. I'd try everything before quitting and rethinking of suicide as someone told me this trial won't be for long.
I'm also reconsidering going back to the doctor and have my hormones and blood check.
By the way, has anyone here tried oil pulling for BB?

Hi joliepitt, I have a very similar problem, I get a smoke/burning rubber odour.. though I don't really know what causes it. It seems worse for a few days after drinking alcohol, even just 1 beer! but other than that I haven't really noticed any patterns. I have GI problems so that might well be related, i've just started a lactose free diet which seems to be helping on the GI side at least. I suspect lack of enzymes is, if not a primary cause, then at least a secondary one. I have also suffered from classic odour problems such as halitosis, brom, and foot odour despite being a clean person. My oral hygiene is good enough that i've never had any tooth decay or cavities, and have no fillings... yet I get bad breath. I've worked out routines and treatments for these over the years and I have them 90% under control... but nothing seems to change the burning rubber smell So... if you ever find out what the problem is be sure to let me know!

Hi joliepitt,
I have a similar problem, the sweat smells like burning rubber. [ I will tell the story.] Recently I had a tooth that went rotten, and it went un-diagnosed by the dentist for 3 visits in 3.5 months.
I changed dentists and a simple x-ray found it. During that 3.5 months I eventually procured some antibiotics, first from the dentist, then from the Doctor. Amoxycill, is the preferred antibiotic for infected teeth it seems, this acts on Aerobic Bacteria.[ lives in oxygen environment.]It had little effect even at 1 gram per dose, three times a day for a protracted period.
I complained that eating Jelly Beans would do more good, and they prescribed an antibiotic called Metronidazole, an Anaerobic antibiotic. After a while the discomfort of the Gum/Tooth infection abated, as at the time the infection cause was unknown. Then it returned with added vigor, I started to have cognitive problems, and was unsteady on my feet. This is when I went to the other Dentist and the cause was found. Necrosis is the deconstruction of organic [ usually dead ] material, and these Bacteria if allowed to roam for too long will find a home in like tissue else-where in the body, and deconstruct this tissue only it is living.
The tooth was addressed with the rotting material removed and Calcium Hydroxide put in to halt the infection in the tooth cavity itself, several times. Anti-biotics were given by the second Dentist in a body that had the Rotting tooth pulp removed and all the secondary symptoms of Urinary Tract infection disappeared after a while. These were I think Amoxycill, and Metronidazole back to back.[ note this was done before but with the rotting tooth still in play with different results ]
This shows that the secondary symptoms were in-fact Aerobic Bacteria or similar. The infection returned with new vigor, after the course was completed.
I decided to go for a Biofeedback scan, with a local person, the machine was the Metatron, a NLS biofeedback device, with a Clinical rating of 98%. It came up with " Uroplasma Urealytican" Ureaplasma urealyticum is a bacterium belonging to the family Mycoplasmataceae. Its type strain is T960.
This was causing problems with bleeding etc, hence the urgency, The Metatron got rid of this, and with a bottle of Homeopathic drops things improved quite nicely. The bleeding stopped but the swelling changed, and became more painful, less red and only the Urethra was now inflamed. The smell changed from a funky type smell, to that of burning rubber, also coming out with this smell when sweating, infecting the clothes. This became quite pungent at times.
Conclusion is that there were at least two infections together, The Metatron knocked one off, and with the competition gone the other infection increased. The smell originally was of "two" infections, when one infection went then the smell changed to totally of burning rubber. A revisit to the Metatron showed nothing---which means that it cannot detect that particular infection, or that none exists---the evidence suggests the former.
Due to changes in eye vision during this 4 months I have concluded that an Anaerobic bacteria is responsible for eye problems, and that a suitable antibiotic for a suitable time will help with my increasingly blurry vision, that accelerated during the 3.5 months with the rotting tooth.
The Antibiotics given for the infection by the second Dentist vanquished the symptoms but not the offender.
Hope this helps people looking for answers.

I work as a cashier, and about a year ago I started noticing some strange odor. It was first like a feces smell, then changed to this almost yeasty smell mixed with sweat. But when I smell my skin, it doesn't smell like anything. I dont understand... I started taking a multivitamin, and probiotics, and even chlorophyll tablets. I just dont know what else to do...
Customers come up and say hello, then all turn beet red, or wipe their nose a lot, or cough and look at me with a grossed out face. Half the time I cant even smell it... im losing my mind. Help!

I am losing my mind too. I am trying not to care and just do what I can. I have to live and just try to enjoy my life. It is so sad. But I can't control it. I can't eat any soy.

So I literally don't go anywhere due to how bad I smell . At first i sometimes smell funky like sweat then it turns to a burning , rubbery smell . I always ask my family do I smell bad and they lie and say no . But I know by their faces and the constant rubbing of their noses that I do . Not to mention the mean ppl in public who cough constantly when they are by me or just avoid me like the plague all together . Sometime I feel like I'm cursed and this is some nightmare I'll never wake up from
