I'm going to give the anti candida diet a go to see if anything improves.
Hi,
I'm having very bad breath recently more than usual, so i gave up coffee on saturday hoping for some change but nothing, worse if anything so yesterday i have decided to go anti candida as i do have other health implications like ME/CFS, scalp problems, dryness, low blood sugar... so maybe all my smells are linked to candida??? who knows.
I may be clutching at straws but i have to try. So i'm cutting everything out apart from complex carbs, i am a carboholic.
Anyone tried the diet and noticed an improvement.?
I'm going to my GP on thursday to see about testing for tmau to rule that out or in....its just all so confusing about what it is or could be
Fingers crossed i see an improvement.

Re: I'm going to give the anti candida diet a go to see if anything improves.
I think smells can be linked to candida. I think the diet would work, but you have to do the "whole" thing, with the antifungal and everything. I did a CDSA (stool test) and it showed a 4+ for candida, enough to require treatment. I did the diet and caprylic acid for 8 WEEKS!!! Very hard, but I did it! I then re-did the CDSA and I knocked it down to a 1+. Much better.
Then I went through an extremely stressful time and did not pay as close attention to my diet, did the CDSA again, and it was 4+ again. My doctor this time said, "Don't mess with the natural Capryl. Take Diflucan. That should knock it out, but cut out the sugars."
Also what the CDSA showed is that I have a lot of digestion abnormalities. My gallbladder and liver are not working optimally and she suggested some supplements for that and digestive aids. She thinks once I get my digestion working properly, , the digestive enzymes flowing like they're supposed to, that I will not be so susceptible to the candida.
I also just sent away a urine sample to Nigel Manning. This is my 2nd test. My first one I did through the US and it came back mild TMAU, but I did not know enough and the lab did not test the tma-tmao ratio, so I wanted to test again through Nigel Manning and also to see if I could get some feedback from him.
FINALLY, my point, after a long rambling story, (sorry) is I think two really important tests are the CDSA and the TMAU test. It could give you VERY much information. And you really don't know what to do until you have the medical results. How would I have ever known my gallbladder might be a problem? Hopefully, once I get that under control and get my digestive enzymes flowing like they're supposed to, and get my good bacteria through probiotics, my bad bacterias, like yeast and maybe even TMAU, will go down.
I think (maybe?) if the environment for growing bacteria is improved and you fill it with good bacteria (probiotics), maybe there will be less of the TMAU bacteria in you, because there won't be room with the good bacteria. Maybe this last part is just wishful thinking, but any little thing helps, I guess!

Thanks Wendycori for such a detailed and helpful reply.
I am thinking along the same lines as you as reduction in overall bacteria may help but it is all ifs and buts and i'm getting to the point where i'm too scared to eat anything just in case its this or that I have to laugh or i'll cry.
I'm on day 3 of the candida diet and feel hungry and fed up
Can i just ask do doctors do the CDSA test please?

Jump4Joy,
The doctor that I use is an integrative doctor, which means, I believe, she believes in natural treatments like accupuncture, etc., but she's also an M.D. But....my husband also had to do one and it was either his family doctor or his gastroenterologist who had him do it. I can't remember which.
I think the CDSA is becoming widely used now because a doctor suggested it for my sister too. So I think it would be easy for you to get. And it sounds horrible, but it's not so bad to do. It's worth the information you get from it.
Also, this time when it came back with yeast my doctor said don't do the natural way, let's just use Diflucan and wipe it out, and she said I didn't have to do the diet, but stay away from the sugars. So I'm going to try to eat a somewhat normal (or low-choline) diet and try not to eat many sweets, but I'm not going to stress about the white potatoes, etc., like on the anti-candida diet.

Hi Wendycori,
I looked up CDSA but seems to be about £225 for a test Which is out of my price range at the mo. I couldn't find any info about whether NHS do it, results just kept coming up with nutritionists.
My breath has been better on the diet, i'm on day 7 now but i did have a slip up last night when i ate pumpkin pie that i'd made...oops..and the breath went bad along with the who's farted line
My doc is willing to test for tmau after i have had conventional blood tests and swabs and then she said she would refer me. So that will be one answer.
I just wish everything didn't cost as much and i'd test for everything.

Wow! It's just terrible that one little slip up does that to us. m-m--m, pumpkin pie sounds good! Maybe there's a recipe that works for us???
If you can, talk to your doctor about that CDSA. I can't be sure, because I've done so many tests, etc., that I can't remember for sure, but I think somehow I was able to get some of the amount of that test covered. But I'm in the U.S. This sure is a pricey journey, isn't it?
