Flossing...
For about 2 to 3 weeks I've had some really horrible breath. No matter how much I brushed and used mouth wash. I looked in my medicine cabinet and noticed a box of dental floss. Long story short, I've been flossing for about 2 weeks now. 3 times a day. I've noticed a dramatic change in my breath. My teeth feel a lot cleaner, my breath is a lot fresher. I was never big on flossing, but what a difference flossing can make. Wow. I'm going to schedule a dental appointment and get a thorough cleaning. This small victory has done a lot for my self esteem. This I can "control." Even if I don't have control over my TMAU symptoms. My oral hygiene is within my control. Maybe one day, TMAU and other malodor syndromes will be a thing of the past. One day.

RE: Flossing...
Yes it is very important to floss your teeth, those things stuck in between your teeth really gives off a bad smell. I don't suffer from bad breathe but sometimes when I eat food that gives off unpleasant smells(like onions and meat) I always floss my teeth.
Another great tip is to always scrap your tongue gently with a plastic tongue scraper(don't use toothbrush!) in the morning after brushing your teeth.
Cheers

RE: Flossing...
Thanks for the advise Will. I too have very bad breath and just recently discovered that it was as bad as it is. I thought that I had a mild case of bb and that the body odor was much worse thatn the bb. When I saw my doctor last time I asked her about looking into the cause of my BO, and she told me of course that she could not detect anything on my body, but mabey I shold go to the dentist. She says, Mabey it's your breath.....HINT......HINT! I know that my breath gets really bad once a month(during menustration), where I actually can smell it, but I thought that for the rest of the month it was OKAY!
I also overheard a waitress in a restraunt talking about my horrible breath.....bummer!
So, yesterday I asked my kids if they smelled anything on my breath and that it would not hurt my feelings for them to be honest with me.
My youngest told me that it smelled like sewage.....OUCH! Then I rinsed my mouth with a very strong mouthwash and my oldest then said that it smelled of rotten eggs.....but I stll loved you mommy he added!!!!
I too floss at least twice a day. It seems like dairy products make my breath the worst. If I could just stick to this freakin diet!!!
I am starting to believe that I may have TMAU because of the various odors that I am emitting. Sometimes my kids ask me man, what stinks? I just smile and say I don't know...hahaha. I have foot odor, BB, and underarm and groin odor, and the odor on my body seems to change from what I can tell.
I really am starting to seriously think about going back to the doctor and ask for the test. I may be laughed at or lied to but I think I need to do this for myself. I've had doctors put me on antipsychotic meds. and try to convince me that there is no odor.....but honestly my kids would'nt lie to me and them telling me about my breath really helped me. To some degree I try to deal with the problem with denial.....
I don't freakin know............

RE: Flossing...
Sonya, I'm in the same boat as well. I've never been tested before but I have mentioned this condition to at least two doctors and still no resolution. The two of them wanted to give me "medical" soap or "deo." I'm like "Umm...it's not a hygiene issue. There's something not working right with my body.":s What part of this don't doctors seem to comprehend? It's summer and the heat makes me self conscious. I think we all spend hours in the shower or bath just trying to keep ourselves clean and smelling nice. But since I've started flossing my BB is gone. My oral hygiene regimen:
1. Floss in the am and after meals (3 - 4 times a day)
2. Brush
3. Pro Health mouth rinse
4. Probiotics
I'm thinking about getting some probiotics especially suited for teeth and gums. Good luck to you Sonya! Hang in there! Stand your ground!:
