Lately, I've been watching the many videos posted by young odour sufferers . Every video these brave people share with the public helps raise awareness and break down taboos. They're tough to watch - people being evicted from hotels because of odour, people being harassed by neighbours because of odour, people being bullied at college because of odour - but they are invaluable as they are evidence of how we are treated daily.
We all need to take action to give the younger generation a future. We can't sit and wait for the medical communities to help us; we won't get anywhere unless the community pull together and speak as a united voice. Metabolic malodour sufferers are on a spectrum: there are those who suffer an uncontrollable, severe odour almost constantly and those who have a milder (or less complex) version which occurs intermittently or may be reduced with dietary measures. Wherever you are on the spectrum, you should not be ashamed of your medical disorder. We can't just moan and hide away. Here is a petition that a member has started, and it is an excellent initiative which needs our support. I've signed many petitions on change.org. It's just an e-mail address required - no big deal. Signing a petition is not a declaration that you're affiliated with that cause - just that you support that cause. This petition can, and should, be signed by our friends and relatives too. www.change.org/p/centers-for-disease-control-and-prevention-awareness-for-tmau?recruiter=795358396
