Another interesting thing, and I wonder how many other sufferers experience the same thing, I've noticed that I tend to be overly sensitive to chemicals in my environment: either the chemicals I use at work, or for bathing and personal hygiene. Case in point, right now our landlord is applying chlorine to our well water and we are forced to bathe in this daily. My mother takes showers with the same chlorine-treated water but she never has any noticeable pool smell to her. When I take a shower, on the other hand, I positively reek of it( though she swears she never notices anything). I am going off the reactions I get when I go into public after taking a chlorine-treated shower. Does anyone else have this problem?

Hi npd, sorry for the delay, I come here rarely nowadays. IBS might be the reason or at least one of the reasons for odour. I'd recommend trying non-irritable diet. If nothing else, it should make your stomach feel better. IBS could also be caused by SIBO. There is an easy breath test for this, might be more difficult to cure though. I've heard of some antibiotics that only effect in the gut area, so they are not digested, to help in this case. I had once my alat & asat high for no explanation. My doctor asked me if i have always had yellowish skin. Nothing in other tests was abnormal. Nowadays also alat & asat are normal. Antiperspirants: I only use perfume-/odor-free ones, because in the case it fails, the mix will be worse. What i've been wondering is whether the odor-free ones make my odor worse too, moving the sweating from underarms to overall body. But it's difficult to say because i can't smell it directly. To the chlorine thing: coming from swimming hall i sometimes sense a very strong, salty kind of smell. Sometimes it's bad, sometimes it resembles food odor. That's why i prefer washing all the chlorine from my skin with soap, even though hygienically thinking this should be useless. If you can smell yourself, try if avoiding choline has any effect (choline is eg. in egg yolk, meat, most cabbages, many fish, beans, some nuts, soy products, liver. check this: nutritiondata.self.com/foods-000144000000000000000-w.html ) It might be difficult but if you minimize the use of choline and see notice results, you should definitely get tmau tested. If the diet gets you hungry, notice that the egg whites, which are a good source of protein, have only a hint of choline (2.7 mg). Meanwhile, don't care about your co-workers comments. Or you can also tell them that you're hygienic and odor has some other, metabolic reasons, of which doctors know little. They might even decide to help you. I don't know if there are some risks in this approach. Anyway, don't feel insulted by ignorant comments.
