I work as a cashier, and about a year ago I started noticing some strange odor. It was first like a feces smell, then changed to this almost yeasty smell mixed with sweat. But when I smell my skin, it doesn't smell like anything. I dont understand... I started taking a multivitamin, and probiotics, and even chlorophyll tablets. I just dont know what else to do... Customers come up and say hello, then all turn beet red, or wipe their nose a lot, or cough and look at me with a grossed out face. Half the time I cant even smell it... im losing my mind. Help! I am losing my mind too. I am trying not to care and just do what I can. I have to live and just try to enjoy my life. It is so sad. But I can't control it. I can't eat any soy. I feel your pain and just know you are not alone ! Hopefully one day we can all figure out the source to our smell because unlike what others think or say about us it isn't a hygiene issue .

Hello All-
This is probably the 1000th time I have searched for "my armpits/breath smell like (insert stink here)". For me, that stink changes. Today, as in right this second, it's a burning smell. Yesterday it was really strong B.O. Some mornings, I get a whiff of cat pee. I can walk up to our back door, which is in a corner and next to a tall freezer, and smell a musty poop smell. Sometimes I can't smell anything at all, other days I feel like I can't leave the house. Some days are better than others. It's confusing and confounding and definitley and emotional nightmare. If you are reading this because you, too, believe that you stink then---well, I am so sorry. I feel you. I know what you are going through. It sucks with a capital 'S'. Right now I am on day 4 of a seven day anti fungal treatment and will start a six week treatment soon. I pray that God will be with me and bring an end to all this self conscious, can't hold a job, is afraid to go out into the world and live, kind of life. It sure has taught me some valuable lessons though. For instance: you never, ever, never know what someone is going through in their head. With love and hope!

Seems like people at this site are dealing with the same kind of metabolic body odor I have. Let me share my experiences and insight. For decades, off and on, I have dealt with smell or smells. Only a few times have I ever smelled these smells: one was like ammonia, the other burnt rubber/feces. A light went on in my head after smelling this: "That's why people were rubbing their noses/turning their backs/going 'Whew!'/quietly whistling/etc. at me" The problem got worse 5-4 years ago to the point where I stopped going out other than to work. Last year, I started drinking a drink of water with a few tablespoons of apple cider vinegar and a 2000mg cinnamon capsule to combat the smell. Immediately, small white flakes would come out in my urine--Candida! Although I would suffer diarrhea occasionally, I continued taking these items. I was able to lower my blood sugar and stop being a Diabetic 2 patient. The ammonia smell went away--it might have been my liver trying to supply "water" to my body. I pissed like a race horse and seemed to always have problems staying hydrated. Adding coconut water to my diet seems to have taken care of Mr. Ammonia. However, Mr. Burnt Rubber/Feces has stuck around. From what I have researched, I think I smell like this after eating/drinking ANYTHING except water, beer and liquor (Yeah, I don't get it either... ). To not smell like feces during the work day, I literally pig out at dinner, then don't eat anything the next work day. No smell...but at a price. I can only consume water and HCL--nothing else. I am focusing on my stomach, small intestines, pancreas and kidneys for clues and solutions. My best guess is my stomach is not doing it's job, so everything downstream is jacked up. More...later, in a day or so. I have returned to using probotics and multi-vitamins. I believe I can kick-start my digestive system and get it working right again. I took a TMAU test and appeared to NOT have TMAU.

I am losing my mind too. I am trying not to care and just do what I can. I have to live and just try to enjoy my life. It is so sad. But I can't control it. I can't eat any soy. I thought I was the only one experiencing this!!! Wow!!! Before I share my own experiences, let's try to dissect this issue. Ask yourself: - Do I stank 20 minutes after I eat (Possible stomach issue. low/lack of HCL (stomach acid) or leaky gut caused by Candida. Try a shot of coconut water 2 times a day for a week and see what happens. Also, take 1 marshmallow supplement capsule each meal. And/or try 1 cinnamon supplement capsule 2 times a day.) - Do I stank for 3-4 days at a time? (Digested food stays in your body for 12-53 hours. Leak gut, parasites, lack of proper enzymes--difficult to troubleshoot. Try fasting for a day and see if things improve. You might have to try an Elimination Diet--stop eating all foods, but one food at a time. For example, each day eat 3 meals with just one food and water and see what happens. It sucks and takes forever, but unless you get tested by a gastrologist.) - Do I only stank every now and then? (Some sort of nutrient deficiency triggered by something you ate possibly or extreme physical activity.) Everybody stanks/smells for slightly different or very different reasons. The smell points to the cause. For example, I smelled/stank of ammonia and burnt rubber/feces for years. Sometimes it was one smell or the other....and sometimes BOTH. The ammonia smell was my liver supplying "water" for my body because I was pissing so much due to being a diabetic. Cinnamon and coconut oil (later coconut water) knocked out the Candida that was causing that condition. Also, starting taking Betaine HCL 650mg with meals (1-6 capsules--1 cap: small meal, 6 capsules: big meal. Spread them out over the course of the meal, like 2 before the meal, 2 during the meal, 2 after). Blood sugar levels normalized. I am still dealing with the burnt rubber/feces smell, but have localized the issue to my stomach and small intestines. Since I only smell for hours after eating, I simply don't eat during the day (weird, but it works!). After work, if I don't have anywhere to go, I pig out for 3 hours. I allow my body to process the food for 6-8 hours and my kidneys to filter waste for 12 hours. I wake up the next day not smelling. I only drink water during the course of the day...until dinner. Saturdays I like to club, so I don't eat all day...sucks! If I were to make a Vegas bet, it is a nutrient deficiency affecting the amount and correct number of digestive enzymes from working. And here is where we all appear to be having fun, as there are a zillion things going on with our digestive systems, all at the same time...all the time. Working, sleeping, eating, playing....your digestive system is doing something. There are a zillion things that could be causing the issue. You could do a body flush, but the cheapest (but part of the longest) route is the Elimination diet. For as long as you can, FAST....eating only a multi-vitamin and water. Then, one-by-one each day...try eating a food and seeing the reaction. If you are lucky, you have a good friend who will let you know when you smell. Me, I have only co-workers and the general public to let me know...and they can be VERY CRUEL!!!! More...later.

I'm so embarrassed people around me comment about how bad the house smells. I smell like smoke last night when all I took yesterday were probiotics, vit b complex, vit d with soybean oil, white rice and veggies for meals. Had no sugar and oily foods for almost a month. My odor isnt as bad as before this diet but today I smell like rubber or dirty shoes again! My breath has not gone for good but it has bit improved since I started using hydrogen peroxide. But peeps still cover their noses when I talk. Whether stressed or not, the rubber odor comes and goes. I'm so puzzled what have I eaten that makes me smell such. Hi joliepitt, I have a very similar problem, I get a smoke/burning rubber odour.. though I don't really know what causes it. It seems worse for a few days after drinking alcohol, even just 1 beer! but other than that I haven't really noticed any patterns. I have GI problems so that might well be related, i've just started a lactose free diet which seems to be helping on the GI side at least. I suspect lack of enzymes is, if not a primary cause, then at least a secondary one. I have also suffered from classic odour problems such as halitosis, brom, and foot odour despite being a clean person. My oral hygiene is good enough that i've never had any tooth decay or cavities, and have no fillings... yet I get bad breath. I've worked out routines and treatments for these over the years and I have them 90% under control... but nothing seems to change the burning rubber smell So... if you ever find out what the problem is be sure to let me know!

I'd been in my best friend's car for tears but only yesterday that I smelled the burnt rubber. He told me it was his breath. He rolls his own cigarette, doesn't drink. I m wondering what causes it. It's not the smell of rotten teeth...that smells like rotten potatoes. It really smells like rubber. I know that he doesn't have fake intestines. He is not very dental hygienic, like he doesn't care if he has a toothbrush or toothpaste when he stays in a hotel. I know some bad breath smell like fart or feces..I think that's coming from the intestines when there's acid reflux. However, thus rubbery smell is something new to me. I will ask him if he takes capsules. Maybe there's some rubber gel from the capsules? Please some one tell me if you roll your cigarette s and/ or take capsules do we can compare to see if those are the causes. He wears partial denture and as I mentioned, he didn't care whether he brush his teeth or not. Is there rubber in the dentures? I care about him because he is my ride and I don't want him to be smelling rubber all the time. He said he doesn't take meth but very seldom smokes marijuana. Any ideas?
Thanks.

I am unsure what other users have, but the solution that worked for me focused on healing Leaky Gut Syndrome.
Buy these items from a health food store: HCL (for low stomach acid), Super Enzymes OR Vegazyme for digestive enzymes and Slippery Elm to coat your digestive track. On an empty stomach, take one teaspoon of Slippery Elm with a glass of water. With every meal, take 1-2 HCL capsules and 1-2 digestive enzymes.
I took these supplements for 6 months to confirm they really worked. I noticed positive changes within 3 days!

Hello I have been suffering from halitosis for a while now and i think i might have some ideas that migjt help...the smoke smell or burn rubber i suffered from turned to be the smell of excess co2 in my blood that wasnt expelled bcs of a dust allergy i wasnt aware about that made my lugs full if mucus so they didnt function well Regarging the feces smell it might be due to un acid reflux even if u cant feel heart burn , for me what caused the reflux also was the dust allergy there might be several reasons y u have reflux such as h pylori bacteria or haital hernia or a weakened les anyway this applies to my situation as allergies where responsible for the smell to test u can simply take an antihistamin or steroid medication if you feel better it is the cause

hi, im also suffering with my body odor and the worst thing is i cant smell myself. i have smell disorder i think. sometimes my classmates says she smell something like a burnt rice or rubber. sometimes smell like fart or worse is poop. i just know it because my classmate said it to me then they cover their nose when they are around me. its really embarrassing that others were the first to noticed it before i become aware of it that's why i become anti social, i tend to stay at home than going out. i never attended any activity at my school because of the thought that ill just put myself into embarrassment again. i don't want many people will know me as a stinky girl. i tried to avoid meat and spicy food also try to drink more water but cant avoid to still have smell. i always get depressed because of my situation and sometimes i just wanted to kill myself because of embarrassment i have because i think i'm not normal person like others. i want to succeed in life but this odor of mine pulls me back because of that i don't have self confident, my self esteem is so low now. i think my life is ruin because of this.i don't know where can i get strength to continue this life. i think its genetic problem

Hi there unknown, I am very sorry to hear of your situation. That also was my experience when I was in school. Just thought I d let you know, since you suspect it might be a genetic cause, that you should Google something called tmau. (Its more commonly caused fish odour syndrome but sufferers can have a range of smells like the ones you described.) One form of tmau called primary tmau is genetic in origin and certainly would cause your symptoms though there are probably a lot of other as yet unrecognized causes out there also. Afraid though my school days are long behind me I still smell pretty bad. Think you are right to avoid meat and spicy foods. The only bit of advice I might give you is to be very careful with dairy products also (though be sure not to let yourself get malnourished, perhaps try some supplements if you cut out certain foods). Such a pity we are in this situation, hope you have more luck than I had in trying to get rid of the problem
