Let me first give this disclaimer: wetness was NEVER an issue for me. only odor. Despite what people say about wetness and body odor this was simply not the case for me as I was bone dry but still stinky. here goes ---------- For people suffering from apocrine gland bromhidrosis, please look into spironolactone. I am completely cured of what plagued my body for 10 years. I smelled like an onion under my arms and in my groin NO MATTER WHAT I tried. Only someone with this problem can understand what I mean when I say I tried everything. I won't even go through the list because i would be here typing all night but whatever you can think of I tried to no avail. I spent thousands of dollars on procedures that slightly reduced my problem but didn't fix it. It still wasn't livable. My problem was NOT bacteria related regardless of what the web or doctors say about body odor.alcohol, antibacterial soaps, tea tree oil etc didn't work. I had no social life and low low self esteem. Please please please look into spironolactone. Testosterone is what activates apocrine glands to secrete and in my case, The sweat produced by glands were smelly. Spironolactone blocks the testosterone and therefore stops the smelly problem that me and many others are suffering from. I have been to specialists, dermatologists, tried topical antibiotics, prescription deodorant, crystals, miradry, detoxes/cleanses and so much more! Changed my diet. I even went raw and nothing! Became vegetarian and all. It was so much guys. I feel like I owe this to the community that was suffering with me. I remember not wanting to live anymore. If this can save anyone I would be happy. There are side effects and there is a disclaimer for men and pregnant women but please you guys. This isn't a gimmick. I researched for months trying to figure out what could cure my problem. Having a science/biological educational and career background was helpful in my search. I also wanted to wait a little bit to be sure that this is something that works and didn't want to get anyone's hopes up. Here I am a month and half on the meds and I'm odorless. I love all of you guys and I wish you all the best. Please just look into it, it has changed my life.
AIso I know this will help someone. I just know it will. I remember the anxiety my body odor caused. I remember the depression. I remember dropping out of college. I remember my mom asking me about children and me telling her that I would never have a baby because I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I passed this problem to my children. I wouldn't wish this problem on my worst enemy so now maybe one can get an idea of how bad this was for me. Definitely wasnt just in my head either because people began to talk. Fast forward to today. I cried when it began to work. I get emotional because My problem is gone! I had surgeries all kinds of procedures. Even considered skin grafts to remove those glands. I don't want anyone to have to suffer like I did. Please Consider.

Wow! Thank you for your post! It gives me hope. I had so many hopes and dreams for my life and it's all crumbling down now - or so it seems. Did you get a prescription for these pills? I've got a doctor's appointment in a few weeks I'll bring it up to her - I did 1 Miradry procedure but the sweating subsided, not the odor...I often find my clothes smell mid day and after wearing them a few times I can't get the smell out of them ( I was then after every wear). Thank you so much for your post - it truly I gave me hope and I like relate to EVERY SINGLE WORD!!!! I'm mid thirties and been suffering since puberty. I know it's not always bacteria related!

Hmmm...I’m not sure I trust the person who posted on here...we are all vulnerable but we also have to be realistic. I take marvelon ( birth control pill) that contains progesterone and it hasn’t helped at all. Progesterone is also good for blocking testosterone levels... so if that hadn’t worked, chances are that the spiro won’t either...

I have been on spironolactone for about 5 years, for acne and unwanted facial hair, and it did improve my body odor too, which was a smaller problem. However, recently tried to wean off of it and acne and oil and body odor returned. It does work but makes you tired and urinate alit, I can live with those side-effects and am back on it.

Hi
I found the comments below on a website about acne and people advising on what helped them, as you will see the person is commenting on spironolactone which she had been taking for a decade and the side effects it caused her. It might not be the same for everyone but it is better to have this info, and maybe its not something that should be used long term, ten years is a long time??
Age: 30-35 Skin: Acne-prone, Other, Not Sure Hair: Red, Other, Other Eyes: Blue I have been taking Spironolactone now for almost a decade, at 200 mg/daily. I started taking it because I was experiencing abnormal body hair and body acne from PCOS (even after taking birth control), and I was scared. It took forever to find a doc who would prescribe this to me, and I know why. Basically, it ruined my body. My skin became yellow-brown and mottled, I developed spider veins everywhere, extremely noticeable blue veins all over my body, horrible dark circles, sagging skin from dehydration-related edema, severe constipation and associated body odor, dry mouth, flatulence from bacterial imbalance in my stomach...Do not take this medicine. I was in a honeymoon period where I was happy to reduce PCOS symptoms, but it caused irreversible ugliness. I have lost my youth and even though I'm 32, my skin is sagging like I'm 80. I want to die, because I'll never have my life back.
Update: 3/19/14 I still stand by my review. Do NOT take this medicine. Change your diet and lifestyle first. If you are experiencing severe acne, cut out ALL dairy. Every trace. This drug will destroy your body and your looks permanently.

Hi guys it’s me again.I’m the original poster. I started taking 50 mg of spiro and jumped to 100 because I noticed in the summer things were getting a little noticeable but definitely nothing compared to what it was before. I’m so sorry about what happened to the other commenter and her problems with spiro but unfortunately if you’ve never suffered from bo than I don’t know if anyone can truly understand our plight. Consider the side effects for anyone who is willing to try though but for me those side effects outweighed the reality that I lived daily without spiro. I would kill to be overweight with acne to not smell. Hair on my chin give it to me! Anything to just not smell like a dam onion patch every day all day. It’s just that serious for people that suffer with this condition. I’m not a doctor and I don’t work for any pharma companies, I just wanna help people. I’ll check back here periodically to answer any questions. I myself was lucky enough to have a practitioner who was a friend and prescribed it to me. When I found a new doc I told them that I was already on it for acne and other Hormone related imbalances. My doctor just ordered the blood test to monitor my kidney and other things and all is well. Maybe I’ll set up an email to answer any other questions. Love you all

The spiro doesn’t block the production of testosterone it binds to the receptors leaving your appcorine glands partially or completely non functioning (depending on your spiro dose which can determine how much binding can happen). As for birth control, not sure because even though it blocks some testosterone you probably still have enough floating around to activate your glands which contributes to your odor problem (if you suffer from apocrine bromhidrosis). Type in spiro and apocrine glands in your search engine and there will be evidence of what I’m telling you. I know this is a sensitive subject and what works for some definitely won’t work for all but as I stated earlier, I just want to help

Hi Kia,
Thank you so much for your reply - I have to admit that I was skeptical of your comment but I noticed you also posted on DrArmpit’s website. He’s great. I follow his website a lot. I recently went to see a physician - I live in Canada, and they wouldn’t prescribe it to me...I’m hoping I can find someone who will...this is unbearable...I now work from home but I’d love to travel and be free...I didn’t think people still used this website...one quick question: did you have a hormonal imbalance? I find my ph is always off...

i want to try spiro, anyone please help me to get this,, I got mine from a dermatologist. Best decision of my life. I recommend starting at 50mg 2x per day. It’s the only thing that has ever helped. Literally, nothing helped. Yes, it will dehydrate you, so drink water and get blood tests regularly, as recommended for your doctor. I take an oral hyaluronic acid supplement to help. I was put on it just for acne. Helps keep you thinner as well. So, that’s an extra perk. Good luck guys! Also, do not take zinc and check any supplements u may take to make sure it’s safe to take with this diuretic.

How soon did you notice the difference in body odor ? I’ve never had an issue with body odor however over the past 6 months I’ve struggled with an odd smell that I can’t get rid of I have tried everything and I’m desperate

Hello. I’m here to share my experience and help those who relate to the original post. I came across the original post and tried spiro 50mg then increased it to 100mg. It did nothing to me. I was depressed and desperate cuz ive already tried everything including botox and 2 treatments of Miradry. Then I realized that it's time to consider apocrine gland removal. I googled the surgery and couldn't find any surgeon who does it where i live. However, I found a clinic in South Korea - Seoul - with affordable price. I didnt wait a minute immediately contacted them and scheduled an appointment the surgery costs 1100$ I had to stay in korea for 10 days to follow up with the dr. I’m now a 20 days post-operation. The surgery lasted 1 hour with sleep anesthesia. I took the first after surgery to rest then I was able to go out and discover Seoul. No pain I didn't need pain killer, but I was prescribed antibiotics for 7 days. The first 4 days had difficulty moving my arms freely but I would go out and enjoy my day. The stitches were about 1cm. Now I dont need to use deodorant at all. My sweat glands are permanently removed. Note, Excessive sweating wasnt an issue for me cuz I dont sweat a lot I only did it because of the odor. If you are someone who had tried EVERY THING and nothing seems to help. You may read about this surgery. I’m sure it's performed all around the world but I chose Korea cuz the price was affordable. I cant believe that US miradray which's non invasive method costs more than the surgery I did in Korea. I’m writing this comment cuz I wanna help someone who is in the same situation i was at. I'm not sure if I’m allowed to share the Dr and clinic’s name. Google the surgery in Korea and you will find your way. Good luck.
