e-nose

We’ve had discussions in the past on this forum about e-nose (an electronic gadget that can detect various smells). For those of us who cannot smell ourselves we always thought it would be great to know if, and when, we are giving off odours, and while the e-nose looked like it would do the task, it was normally used in industry, and was very expensive.
On a recent CSI show they used an e-nose on a dead man to detect various odours from his body, so I had another look to see if there was any change in price etc.
They appear to be hand-held but I couldn’t see the price. What I did see was a new product called Food Sniffer, which is a small device that you hold near food and it tells you if it is safe to eat. It’s £80.
I just wondered whether this could detect odours from humans as well, and we could check whether we were giving off a smell before leaving the house etc? Just wonder if soap etc may have an impact on the readings?
Hopefully in the future the e-nose will become cheap enough and more accessible to those of us who want one.
