Hi Everyone.
Before the holidays some people were talking about starting the low-choline diet and being very strict with no cheating for a 2 - 3 month period like Leonor Morales did. If you read, Leonor followed a strict low-choline diet with no cheating for a 3-month period and says she no longer has an odor and can eat a normal diet now.
I believe she had a urine test that tested negative for TMAU. Well, I had a urine test that tested positive, but I'm going to give this diet a try and also take all my supplements and probiotics.
I know most folks do already follow the low-choline diet and so do I, but I must say, I've never done it with NO CHEATING. I usually cheat every week when I think I can. My theory is if we keep the choline low enough, hence the TMA, for long enough, and also take many strong probiotics at the same time, then we can get the bad bacteria down to a very low amount that either it won't cause an odor or it will get so low that the probiotics will crowd it out.
I am going to start this Monday, January 16th, if anyone wants to join me, and we could encourage each other and talk about our progress. I also have to say that I cannot detect my own odor so I can only go by reaction, so forth.
HERE IS MY PLAN:
HCI - digestive enzymes Digestzyme - digestive enzymes B-2 (riboflavin) 5 times a day Folic acid - 1 in a.m. and 1 in p.m. Magnesium to keep my bowels moving High doses of probiotics -Klaire-Labs Ther-Biotic powder (heard about from someone on the forum.) I'm hoping gargling with the powder before swallowing might help with bacteria in the mouth for hallitosis also. low pH soap low pH lotion might try lemon juice, which many seem to have had success with.
HERE ARE THE THINGS I PLAN TO EAT:
white rice rice milk green peppers cucumbers celery iceberg lettuce Romain lettuce strawberries blueberries watermelon Crispix cereal chicken breast sweet potato pears tomatoes herbal caffeine-free tea maybe egg whites (they make me a little nervous cuz some people get an odor from them.) Leonor said she only used sea salt as a spice
I plan to do this for 2 months and then at the end of that see what I think about 3 months. What's different this time from what I normally do is I WILL NOT CHEAT AT ALL, I WILL MAKE SURE I TAKE B-2 5 TIMES A DAY, AND I WILL NEVER FORGET TO TAKE MEGA DOSES OF PROBIOTICS EVERY DAY AND DRINK LOTS OF WATER TO MOVE EVERYTHING THROUGH MY BODY.
I'm thinking this might have the same effects as taking antibiotics, but this is the natural way.
I welcome any input. My one concern is can we cause the bacteria to become resistant? I'm hoping not, by using the probiotics instead of the antibiotics.
I think this is going to be hard, but hopefully it will be worth it. I think one of the hardest parts is how do you handle staying on the diet in social situations, dinner out, etc. Maybe we could trade ideas.

Hey Wendy, I'll join you in your no cheating low-choline diet! I saw her post as well and thought about what she wrote. I haven't been tested for TMAU yet, but I have pretty much all the symptoms. I also noticed when I stopped using my antipersperant the "aura" of odor disappeared and it was just an occasional malodor. So, I'm thinking some of my odor was from toxic overload as antipersperants are loaded with Alum. Chloride, which is TOXIC. I think she said she had chemical sensitivities? I also work in a factory and when I moved out of state a year and a half ago my odor mysteriously disappeared. I'm wondering if I have the same problem she did? Anyway, I took a long weekend so I'm with ya! Michelle

Thanks, Trundlebee. Good luck with your water fast. That sounds brutal.
Welcome, Michelle! There are many more folks on the TMAU forum that will be joining us. Did you say you were odor-free since you moved out of town or is the odor still there?

Thanks Wendy! That's great! Hopefully, this will work wonders for all of us. I had the odor a couple of years ago-just started after I had an infection (bv) and it never went away. Then, about 6 months after the infection I moved out of state and it disappeared. I guess the odor disappeared for about 8 months). About 7 months after I moved out of state, I had been living back home MN for a couple of months and started working at my old job again and the odor returned and never left since. It makes me and lots of doctors very confused. So, basically, we have no idea why it started and why it disappeared for a while and then came back? Not sure what it is, but TMAU seems to be the only explaination or maybe that chemical sensitivity thing? Now, I figure the only thing to do is to try the low-choline diet. Well, that and I'm going to move out of state again-I have to save money in the meantime though. Michelle

Hi, I am Kim from Texas and am definately doing the no cheats low choline diet (starting tomorrow-not today!) Just a thought ..... When I buy chicken. I only get the kind that has like 1% or maybe 3% water added. I stay away from the kind that has like 10% "natural juices" added. My brother said that means there is soy and/or MSG in the natural juices. It doesn't have to be organic just no natural juices added. Kim

hi gabby! I liked your meal plan, I am trying to add some more foods to my diet and need more food ideas or recipes. my current one is slowly getting pretty boring although it is helpful. liquid chorophyll does help reduce odour but I think activated charcoal does a way better job.

MissFizi,
Thanks for the input! I would really like you to join us in this venture if you have the time. I know you also have your odor under control, and your diet would be a great help here. Bet it is different too!

As for going out to eat for social events on the low choline diet. I have found that it helps me tremendously to review the menu on line if I know where I will be eating. That way I can really plan what to eat there. Kim

I also want to start a diet since February. But I can not collect all of the components folic acid, activated carbon - can I get probiotics too. But I do not know which is better, in the form of capsules or powder? Vitamins - magnesium, zinc, multivitamins - I can buy
but 1. riboflavin have not sold separately. it will only eat multivitamin with 10 mg maximum water pill. 2. chlorophyll (which I used previously and it was not helpful), I also can not buy. He is a very expensive 3.fermenty I buy. But I fear that they could hurt my pancreas. friend of my mother's doctor said that I should in any case they did not drink when I have no problems with the pancreas
with respect to soap, I think that the fact that we sell the best and bududt jonsons baby dove. what do you think it's good soaps?
and what do you think if my diet is effective if I'll exclude chlorophyll, I will not use enzymes and riboflavin will get at best about 35 mg per day? Or I should not begin a diet?
If I start a diet at the same time taking metronidazole can I also take all the supplements (vitamins, minerals, activated charcoal, folic acid, probiotics)?
I wish you all good luck with the diet!

Okay. It's day 2 of the strict low-choline diet-no cheating. Is everybody on board? Thanks Gabby for your input. It's really helpful to hear what others are eating. I thought we would post under the "No cheating diet" heading but everyone seems to be posting here, so that will work too. Why don't we do it here. I have to say, I find myself not eating because sometimes it's easier than not knowing what to eat. I know it's not good and I just have to do some planning and preparing so it's easier. This diet is not an easy one because there's not a lot of things that you can just grab. You have to cook your rice and chop the vegetables, etc. So what I need to do to be better prepared is cook a bunch of rice and cook some chicken, enough for several days, and pre-chop some veggies so you can prepare something quick if you need to. I've also been taking 5 B-2 capsules out of their bottle and putting them in a little baggie so I can see and know that I've taken 5, because when I don't see what I have or have not taken sometimes I forget. Or a pill container would work too. I never really ate cereal much before this week, but I see a lot of people eat it with the rice milk, so I've been doing that. It's a really easy thing to grab and it's filling. Hope to hear a little bit from everybody once we get rolling here. Let's keep it up Wendy

Hi Wendy I'm actually just getting started on the diet today. I have all of the supplements except for activated charcoal. I will get them this week. I was holding off because, I was hoping to get a prescription from my doc for antibiotics, but, I haven't heard from her. I too, just go without eating, when it's too hard to figure out or make something that we can have. But, that's the problem! I go too long without eating, and end up binging on stuff I know I shouldn't. I'm going to try to pre chop and prepare stuff so it's ready at all times. I'm also trying harder to remember the B2 5 times a day. So, I'm making myself eat 3 meals and 2 snacks. I will try to make sure I have rice milk and rice crispies or rice chex on hand. That is one quick thing, and I need all the help I can get...lol. Keep at it everyone. We can do it. EDI

Hi all, I have been doing the low TMAU diet and TMAU protocol for a couple of weeks.
The supplements I take; B2 100g 3-4 times a day VSL #3 Probiotic. I brought 20 sachets (£45), very expensive but I will only take it every 3-4 months. I will also be taking a sachet undiluted on the back of my tongue living it for several minutes. BB is one of my worst issues, I have been told that this has worked for people. Neti Pots, once a day. I really notice a difference in my sinus already. Nullo, hasn't arrived yet but I will also take this. Metal tongue scraper, 3 times a day. I do not take activated charcoal because I find it makes me very hungry.
My staple foods are, Chicken (I use chicken thigh because it is not as high in sulphur as breast, I imagine it is higher in choline though. I also find it easier to limit the amount with thighs), green peppers, courgette or zucchini, green beans, lettuce, carrots, celery, pasta, oven chips, Gluten free oats, wraps, cottage cheese, rice krispies, diet coke, tea and milk (I use very little whole milk. A pint usually lasts me 4 days).
I try to keep a varied diet as much as I can. I rotate chips, rice and pasta having one a day. I try and eat four times a day. I find that is the minimum I can eat. Below I have put an average day.
Rice krispies or gluten free oats Salad with carrots and celery, (I use olive oil and lemon/lime for dressing) Rice with chicken thigh, courgette and peppers. Wrap with a tbls. cottage cheese and a stick of celery (to give it crunch) toasted.
If anyone knows the choline content of a chicken thigh id be very interested to know.
I also think exercise is a major part of a protocol. I brought a skipping rope and also do weights or pushups and sit ups 3 times a week. Try and get some fresh air everyday aswell.
I have a few sheets on low choline foods if anyone would like them you can send me a message.
Good luck all I hope you see some success, remember that we mostly cannot smell ourselves. these protocols are not a cure but more a way to supress the problem of the smell. We may have times when we smell bad even on these protocols. I think a major factor in seeing positive results is the length of time we do the protocols for. I will be doing this protocol for 6months personally before I draw any conclusions.

Adrianmmc, The choline list I have says a chicken thigh has 37.3 mg and a drumstick has 33.2. I don't think a thigh is near as big as a breast though, so they are probably comparable.
