A quick note about acknowledgements:
I am presenting here information about which Probiotics members found really useful. These messages were taken from a variety of message boards (including this one). Where the messages did not originate from this board, I have referenced exactly where the messages were initially posted so as not to give the impression that they were sourced here.
The aim is to tell you which probiotics are useful since I have found that less than 10% of members from these boards trying probiotics found them useful! Ofcourse, these other 90% of members might not have had a bacterial condition of the gut (such as TMAU2) that was causing the odour.
Anyway, my advice is, if you want to know which probiotic is likely to work, try a brand that has worked for others. So let us start with the most recent posting:-

This is what she posted on that site:
VSL 3 did not help me at all....but Genestras HMF Intensives probiotic helps me more than anything. They are real stomach probiotics not from plants. It seriously works for me. I'd give it a try if you can. It is helping me live much more normally.
Hi guys, I have been going to a naturopath after my normal doctor was no help at all. I'm waiting for my test results to come back (which should be any day now) so my naturopath didnt want to do anything too extreme until we find out if i have TMAU. I've always taken probiotics and theyve improved the odor. However, she has given me a very strong probiotic called HMF intesive. (It's made with real human intestine probiotics. SOunds gross but she told me its better to take human probiotics than animal)You have to keep it in the fridge. It costs $32.00.
It has helped me more than anything ever has! I still can't drink coffee or eat really cheesy junky foods, but my daily life has improved quite a bit. I take one at lunchtime and one before bed.
The label on mine says one but I usually take one at lunchtime and one at night. My doctor said this wouldnt hurt. Some people have gas when they take too many probiotics but i dont have that problem.
She also has me taking extra strength folic acid and one glutamine tablet a day.If i take more than one 500ml glutamine pill i notice a skunky odor so I always stick to one. I've also started taking Slippery elm bark. Slippery elm basically coats your stomach and helps with inflamation. I'm not sure if this one is doing anything but it hasn't done anything bad. It also helps to digest your food more quickly so i go to the bathroom a lot more. Not like a laxative though.
I've learned that I cannot have coffee or tea and cant stand fruit at all! I stay away from these things completely. Most other foods i can be a little more flexible on but still have many that i try not to eat. I will continue seeing my naturopath. She really listens to me and is open to trying different things. I'm sure you can google the probiotic and have it sent to your house if you want to try it. It's been a godsent for the past 2 months.
